Last night I casually mentioned the name [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] and my S/O really liked it - him liking any name is somewhat of a miracle so I’ve decided to properly think about it. All opinions welcome!
Pros:
S/O likes it
I like it
It’s biblical but mainstream
Potential Cons:
It’s been very popular recently (my dad’s next door neighbours have a little [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], would it be copying?)
The reason I mentioned it is because it’s in a computer game S/O and I play (it is not a happy game). S/O thinks it won’t matter by the time we have kids but I’m not sure.
Also what do people think of [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] with the nn [name_m]Zac[/name_m]? Does it make sense? I really like nicknames so it not having a nickname is an automatic turn off for me.
I really like it!! I’ve always thought that the name is sleek…it’s versatile and strong. I personally love the biblical connection and its sweet meaning, especially in that context (“laughter” or “he laughs”, depending on your source). Addressing your listed cons, I don’t think that you would be copying your father’s neighbor’s son at all. [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] isn’t the rarest name, so I don’t think that a connection would even be drawn. I guess I could see it being a slight issue if this other [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]'s family lived right next to you, because of potential confusion in calling the name out, but other than that…no issue. I don’t think the game reference is a huge deal. That may be what made you suggest/think of the name, but there are plenty of other namesakes you could list.
I personally prefer [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] as is, but [name_m]Zac[/name_m] would be an unexpected nickname that would make total sense I think you have a real winner for the list! And hooray that your husband likes it! that can be the worst half of the process lol
I like the name [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]. And I’ve known a couple Isaacs who go by [name_m]Zac[/name_m]/[name_m]Zach[/name_m], so that definitely seems intuitive! I also know an [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] who goes by [name_u]Issy[/name_u] (pronounced like [name_u]Izzy[/name_u]), so that’s another nn option – it might seem a little feminine, but the guy I know is actually very masc (bearded, tall, and everything) and he wears it well. I’ve heard [name_m]Ike[/name_m] as a nickname for [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], too.
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m] is a great name with the best meaning ever! I think [name_m]Zac[/name_m] makes perfect sense as a nickname. [name_u]Izzy[/name_u] and [name_m]Ike[/name_m] work too.
I love [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] a lot, and I agree the meaning is absolutely one of the best in the world! [name_u]Izzy[/name_u], [name_m]Ike[/name_m], and [name_m]Zac[/name_m] are fine nns, but I personally wouldn’t use one? It’s only two syllables, and five letters. Pretty short, honestly. I’ve never known an [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] that goes by anything other than [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]. (Although there’s no reason you COULDN’T use one of those nns lol.)
(For what it’s worth, I DEFINITELY don’t think it would be copying your dad’s neighbor? Sure, they have an [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], but they hardly invented it or have complete domain over the name; like you said, it’s popular!)
