[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone! I’ve recently been loving [name_u]Josie[/name_u] as a standalone name, and I haven’t been able to get it out of my head. It’s such a sweet and underrated name to me.
[name_u]Josie[/name_u] is a name I could use in the future to honor a grandparent on each side of my family. But I also have an aunt named J0@nne. As I’ve said before, I’d like to stick to honoring my parents, grandparents, and brother with future children’s names. While I don’t see Aunt J0@nne often, and and don’t think there would be confusion for that reason, do you think [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is a name I can use? We are very close. Does it seem too much like an honor for J0@nne when it wouldn’t be one? I should add that the reason I’m choosing not to honor aunts and uncles at this point is because our family is very large on my mom’s side. Also, [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is a name I love, and I would consider using it even if it wasn’t an honor name for my grandparents.
A few other questions:
What are some similar names I could use if [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is too close to J0@nne? (i.e. names with similar vibes or your favorite nicknames as first names) Some others I love are:
What are some good sibling names for [name_u]Josie[/name_u]?
What are your thoughts on [name_u]Josie[/name_u]? I know many people prefer [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], which is also a beautiful name! [name_u]Josie[/name_u] just brings me joy in a way that [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] does not.
Any feedback you can offer would be greatly appreciated!
@cms1512 Thank you so much! I see a difference between [name_u]Josie[/name_u], and Jo.anne, but wasn’t sure how it would be perceived because we call her [name_u]Jo[/name_u] sometimes.
Your suggestions are beautiful! [name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are:
[name_u]Blake[/name_u] (love that you suggested this for a girl!)
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] +
[name_u]Ellery[/name_u]
I definitely see where this name could be cutesy. I went to elementary through high school with the only person I’ve ever met with the name. She was a [name_u]Josie[/name_u], not a [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. She was confident and artsy. She wasn’t shy about telling people that her full name was [name_u]Josie[/name_u], and seemed to like the fact that her name was different, but not too out there. I think she is the reason I’ve always thought it could age well on its own. At the same time, I think I’d want to choose a longer middle name in case my future daughter didn’t like [name_u]Josie[/name_u] on its own.
@sammaegre Thank you so much! I really appreciate knowing that. I know I shouldn’t be so worried about what my extended family thinks when I don’t even have children yet, but I also want to avoid potential hurt or awkwardness if possible. I know they would be kind about choices I make, even if they dislike the names, and that there’s no way to make everyone happy.
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] such cute alternatives.
I LOVE both [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_f]Lila[/name_f] as sisters for [name_u]Josie[/name_u]. I think those will have to be added to the list! I like [name_u]Miles[/name_u] and [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u] the most as brothers to [name_u]Josie[/name_u] from your suggestions.
Same here! The first time I met an [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], it was also her full name! She was one of my college professors, and was in her 40’s at the time! The name fit her so well. And I don’t think anyone gave her name a second thought where professionalism is concerned because we all just loved her. I think she made me love the name [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] to be honest, but I love [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] too!
I think it’s fine, if it’s obviously a name honour the grandparents - so if they’re J0seph, J0sephine, J0sette, J0siah etc - though if they’re J0an, J0nah etc it might be less obvious?
Some similar names to [name_u]Josie[/name_u]: [name_f]Edie[/name_f], [name_f]Effie[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Marcy[/name_f], [name_f]Cassie[/name_f], [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], [name_f]Posey[/name_f], [name_f]Pippa[/name_f], [name_u]Indie[/name_u], [name_f]Junie[/name_f], [name_f]Zadie[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Emmy[/name_f], [name_f]Etta[/name_f], [name_f]Polly[/name_f], [name_u]Tallie[/name_u], [name_u]Mattie[/name_u], [name_f]Cora[/name_f]

I prefer [name_u]Josie[/name_u] to [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - it’s lighter, brighter and charming!
If Aunt was [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or [name_f]Josette[/name_f] or [name_u]Jody[/name_u], I’d assume it was an honor. But as [name_u]Josie[/name_u] generally doesn’t get used as a nickname for [name_f]Joanne[/name_f], I’d say you’re fine! [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is a gorgeous name and one of my favorites, so I’d say go for it!
If you told me [name_u]Josie[/name_u] was an honour for [name_f]Joanne[/name_f] I’d believe you, but I think the fact that it actually is an honour for other family members means it wouldn’t be mistaken as an honour for your aunt!
I adore [name_f]Bess[/name_f], [name_f]Bessie[/name_f] and [name_u]Kitty[/name_u] as nickname names and siblings to [name_u]Josie[/name_u]! Also [name_f]Marnie[/name_f], [name_f]Addie[/name_f], [name_f]Hetty[/name_f] and [name_f]Etta[/name_f].
I much prefer [name_u]Josie[/name_u] to [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] feels pretty stuffy to me, but [name_u]Josie[/name_u] has such a sweet [name_u]Anne[/name_u] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables feel to it!
@Greyblue Thank you so much! [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is actually an honor for their middle names, J0seph and J0. But they both had P.J. Initials, and I love that!
@lilyofthevale Thank you so much! This is what I was thinking too! [name_m]Even[/name_m] though we do call her [name_u]Jo[/name_u], I’ve never heard [name_u]Josie[/name_u] as a nickname for Jo.anne. It is definitely one of my favorites, it’s so spunky and sweet!
@Mary_Rose Thank you so much! I could definitely see where it could be seen as an honor for her. But since I have two family members I never got to know who I can honor with the same name, I was thinking it would be OK.
I love so many of your suggestions! [name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are:
[name_f]Marnie[/name_f]

[name_u]Willow[/name_u]
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]
