Questions about these names đź’Ś

Hello Berries. I wanted to ask some questions about the names [name_u]Marian[/name_u], [name_f]Marianne[/name_f], [name_f]Mariana[/name_f], and [name_f]Marianna[/name_f].

Firstly, how would you instinctively pronounce each of these names?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you pronounce [name_u]Marian[/name_u] and [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] the same? how about [name_f]Mariana[/name_f] and [name_f]Marianna[/name_f]?

Secondly, what vibes do you get from each of these names? For example, what colors, imageries, aesthetics come to mind… what sort of girl do you envision?

I’m also curious to know which one is your favorite out of the four!

Thank y’all in advance!

-I would pronounce Marian like librarian! In other words MARY-enn
-I would pronounce Marianne as mary-ANNE.
-I would pronounce Mariana as mary-AH-na
-I would pronounce Marianna as mary- ANNA

So I pronounce them all differently!

Out of the four Marian is my favorite.

-Marian gives me a very studious feeling.
-Marianne gives me a very bubbly 50’s vibe.
-Mariana feels very latin to me, also makes me think of the Mariana trench.
-Marianna feels younger and happy.

[name_u]Marian[/name_u] - Mary-enn (but I prefer the spelling Marion)
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] - Mary-anne
[name_f]Mariana[/name_f] - Mary-ah-na
[name_f]Marianna[/name_f] - same as [name_f]Mariana[/name_f]

Seconding @LibelluleClaire I think [name_u]Marian[/name_u] has a very studious feeling to it. It’s very serious but in a good way.
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] is an older woman to me. Like in their 60s.
Mariana/Marianna reminds me of the ocean, maybe because of the trench or the similarity to the word marine/marina

[name_u]Marian[/name_u] is my favorite.

[name_f]Mariana[/name_f] – marr-ree-AHN-uh

[name_f]Marianna[/name_f] – mare-ree-ANNE-uh

[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] is my favorite because it reminds me of Sense & Sensibility by [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u] which has very positive memories to me because I remember reading it with my mother when I was younger. Overall they’re all good names with good vibes. I prefer the spelling [name_u]Marion[/name_u] to [name_u]Marian[/name_u] and I prefer [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] to both [name_f]Mariana[/name_f] and [name_f]Marianna[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] Instinctive Pronunciations

[name_u]Marian[/name_u] → ma-ree-un

[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] → ma-ree-anne

[name_f]Mariana[/name_f] → ma-ree-ar-nuh

[name_f]Marianna[/name_f] → ma-ree-ar-nuh or ma-ree-ann-uh

making sense of my pronunciations

because I know it can be confusing and I’m bad at writing sounds

ma → like the sound in map or **Ma*tt

ree → rhyming with bee

ar → like the sound in Arthur or **ar*t (or like the [name_f]Anna[/name_f] in Frozen)

ann-uh → like in **Anna*bel or [name_u]Anne[/name_u] with an uh sound

[name_f]Do[/name_f] I pronounce [name_u]Marian[/name_u] and Marianne/Marianna and [name_f]Mariana[/name_f] the same?

No, not instinctively, however, I wouldn’t be surprised if someone did? I’d just correct my pronunciation.

Vibes and imagery etc

[name_u]Marian[/name_u] → literary feeing and refined; distinctive and concise; I like the solid, no fuss vibes

[name_f]Marianne[/name_f] → literary, slightly elegant and slightly grander, sleek, a tiny bit posh? but strong and sort of poetic

[name_f]Mariana[/name_f] → it’s got a bit of flair and elegance, quite sunny, but it also reminds me of pasta sauce? (I would get over that if I met one)

[name_f]Marianna[/name_f] → similar to above, I get mostly the same feel

[name_u]Marian[/name_u] is my fave
