I chose [name_f]Effy[/name_f], because I love the fun and energy it has (okay, I’ll admit that comes very much from the Hunger Games character), but I just really like the sound. It reminds me of [name_f]Ettie[/name_f], bouncy and a little mischievous.
I want to like [name_f]Nell[/name_f], but it’s never quite done it for me. I’m reminded of [name_f]Nell[/name_f] [name_u]Gwyn[/name_u], and whilst it has some charm to it, it’s sort of jarring. I can’t really explain it, but I can’t seem to see the appeal everyone else does.
Fen feels very fantasy to me. Like it would be the name of a boy or girl (I more imagine boy tbh, I think it reminds me of [name_m]Sven[/name_m]) in a land of dragons. Or [name_f]Fenella[/name_f] nn Fen would be a headstrong, slightly wild, quick witted girl in a novel who knows how to survive. I kind of like it. It does feel namey to me (definitely fine for a nn), despite the word.
I think Fen sounds spunky. It reminds me of [name_u]Finn[/name_u], so I picture a feisty, tomboyish little girl.
I voted for [name_f]Nell[/name_f] because I’ve always had a soft spot for it. I think it’s sweet, soft and charming.
But I also like [name_f]Effy[/name_f]. It’s a less intuitive nickname for [name_f]Fenella[/name_f]. I get both spunky and frilly vibes from it.
I love [name_f]Nell[/name_f] and [name_f]Nellie[/name_f].
I chose [name_f]Nell[/name_f], because I love it, but I think Fen sounds pretty and super spunky too. Not a big fan of [name_f]Effy[/name_f], I find it childish and a bit irritating and inconsequential, but it works as a nn.
One of the nicknames that I thought of that wasn’t on your list was [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] - unless it’s too common for your taste, but it’s in the same line as [name_f]Nell[/name_f]/[name_f]Nellie[/name_f] and [name_f]Effy[/name_f].
Otherwise, [name_f]Nell[/name_f] has my vote! It’s common enough that people are familiar with it but uncommon enough that she probably will be the only one in her class (at least, where I’m from). Plus, it’s not so childish that she’d grow out of it, which may happen with [name_f]Effy[/name_f].
I think Fen is pretty. It sounds naturey to me.
I adore the nickname [name_f]Nell[/name_f]! [name_f]Effy[/name_f] has always been a nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] for me (Skins bought that association to me). Fen really doesn’t appeal to me. Xx
I voted for Fen. It sounds very naturey to me, like a pp mentioned, I think because of its similarity to fern. I also like it because it’s cute, it’s elegant, it’s strong, it’s fun. A very versatile nickname in my opinion.
I don’t think it’s too odd as a nickname. I might find it a little abrupt as a full name tho. I think it feels accesible because of it’s similarity to [name_f]Fern[/name_f], as I mentioned. I don’t know if I attach a certain personality to any of these nicknames, but Fen feels very green and tree like to me. Strong, willowly and bendable, tall, full.
