Quinn vs. Quincy for a boy

[name]Hi[/name] berries,
We have our names essentially settled for our twin boys due in 9 weeks…but I’m still thinking about them!

[name]Oliver[/name] [name]Charles[/name] - we are completely decided on this one.

[name]Edward[/name] [name]Quincy[/name] - I have started thinking possibly [name]Edward[/name] [name]Quinn[/name] instead. But I can’t get out of my head that [name]Quinn[/name] sounds more like a girl’s name. I have only met female Quinns [name]IRL[/name] (just 2, however), both under 5 yrs old. We may use [name]Edward[/name]‘s mn as his nn, so this will have some relevance. I know we could always call him [name]Quin[/name] as a nn for [name]Quincy[/name], as well. [name]Just[/name] not sure. I’ve never been wild about boys’ names that end in the -y sound, so maybe this is why I’m second guessing. I do think [name]Quincy[/name] sounds masculine and would only use for a boy. I also do really like [name]Quincy[/name]…maybe this indecision can be blamed on pregnancy hormones??? (PS we are 100% decided on [name]Edward[/name] as a 1st name - long story as to why we may use his mn as nn!)

Sorry so long! Any feedback is appreciated.

[name]Quincy[/name] reminds me of [name]Quincy[/name] [name]Jones[/name]! That might not be such a bad thing to you though. I do like [name]Quinn[/name] but I guess the whole Glee epidemic has made people associate it with girls more. What about [name]Quinton[/name]? I think [name]Edward[/name] [name]Quinton[/name] sounds nice

I think [name]Edward[/name] [name]Quinn[/name] has the better flow of the two, but [name]Quincy[/name] seems a little spunkier to me. I guess if you can’t decide, you can wait till he’s born and see which fits him better.

Honestly, [name]Quincy[/name] reminds me of [name]Percy[/name] or [name]Eustace[/name]… I immediately think of some freakishly feminine or scared little boy. Of course, that is only my opinion. [name]Quinn[/name] is becoming increasingly popular with girls, but as a middle name I think you’re safe, even using it as a nickname. Its strong and masculine to me, like how [name]Cameron[/name] has become unisex but still sounds masculine. I think of the charcter [name]Quinn[/name] from the [name]Sookie[/name] Stackhouse novels.

I think I like [name]Quincy[/name] more. [name]Will[/name] you pronounce it [name]Quin[/name]-zee or [name]Quin[/name]-see? I ask b/c there is a town here just outside of [name]Boston[/name] and you can tell a tourist by how they say it.

I think [name]Quinn[/name] makes the name sound too matchy to his twin’s name (which is lovely, btw). [name]Charles[/name] is one of those one-syllable names that takes longer to say, like [name]Grant[/name] (my brother’s name). I think [name]Quinn[/name] kind of is similar b/c you have to slow down over the Qu- part? I don’t know how to explain it, but that’s why I like [name]Quincy[/name] better.

I have only known girl Quinns. (Two though - not a ton!)

[name]Quinn[/name] seems all fem to me, however [name]Quincy[/name] doesn’t seem all that masculine either. With [name]Edward[/name], i much prefer [name]Quincy[/name] though! [name]Mya[/name] i suggest using [name]Quinton[/name] instead? [name]Edward[/name] [name]Quinton[/name] & [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Charles[/name] sand outstanding together, and there would be no mistaking a [name]Quinton[/name] for a girl!

Okay, freakishly feminine was NOT the idea for my son!!!

We would pronounce it [name]Quin[/name]-see (we used to live in New [name]England[/name] so I understand what you are saying…Quinzee Market, etc.). We’re in the mid-west and nobody would understand why we were pronouncing it with a “z”.

So it seems not a whole lot of love for either [name]Quinn[/name] or [name]Quincy[/name] for a boy…I want something a little off the beaten path for [name]Edward[/name]'s middle name because [name]Edward[/name] is SO classic and traditional. That’s why we like [name]Quincy[/name] (the association w/ [name]Quincy[/name] [name]Jones[/name] is not at all a problem for us).

Any ideas for fairly compact names to go with [name]Edward[/name]? My idea was to think of something that feels similar to [name]Oliver[/name] ([name]Charles[/name] being the classic, traditional element of twin A’s name). I like [name]Quincy[/name] a lot so it’s still a serious contender, but I’d like other ideas as well.

Thanks!

So compact and masculine, yet off the beaten track. [name]How[/name] about:

[name]Edward[/name] [name]Angus[/name]
[name]Edward[/name] [name]Archer[/name]
[name]Edward[/name] [name]Bay[/name]
[name]Edward[/name] [name]Beau[/name]
[name]Edward[/name] [name]Drew[/name]
[name]Edward[/name] [name]Felix[/name] - [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Charles[/name] & [name]Edward[/name] [name]Felix[/name] is stunning!
[name]Edward[/name] [name]Flynn[/name] - [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Charles[/name] & [name]Edward[/name] [name]Flynn[/name] is the perfect mix of playful and masculine! Plus [name]Flynn[/name] reminds me of [name]Quinn[/name]
[name]Edward[/name] [name]Gray[/name]
[name]Edward[/name] [name]Hugo[/name]
[name]Edward[/name] [name]Leon[/name]
[name]Edward[/name] [name]Milo[/name] - [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Charles[/name] & [name]Edward[/name] [name]Milo[/name] is perfection!
[name]Edward[/name] [name]Oscar[/name]
[name]Edward[/name] [name]Reid[/name] - [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Charles[/name] & [name]Edward[/name] [name]Reid[/name] is fun sophistication!
[name]Edward[/name] [name]Silas[/name]
[name]Edward[/name] [name]Tate[/name]
[name]Edward[/name] Wilde
[name]Edward[/name] [name]Zeke[/name]

hope this helps!

Between [name]Quinn[/name] and [name]Quincy[/name], I definitely prefer [name]Quincy[/name]. I don’t find it feminine as a middle name for [name]Edward[/name]. [name]Edward[/name] [name]Quincy[/name] is distinguished, and I’d definitely advise using it over [name]Quinn[/name] since the flow is better, and more importantly, all the [name]Quinn[/name]'s I have known have been girls.

[name]Edward[/name] [name]Quincy[/name] all the way. [name]Love[/name] it!

I thought this was about first names, and I was going to say I thought [name]Quincy[/name] might be a bit iffy as a first name, but it’s a really cute middle name. I like it a lot. You can stick about anything in the middle spot. Nobody ever uses them anyway.

PLUS how cool would it be to have your middle initial be Q?? I still like [name]Quincy[/name] best.

[name]How[/name] about [name]Edward[/name] [name]Quinton[/name]?
