[name_m]Keeper[/name_m] is one of my favorite boy names at the moment, I love his fun, colorful energy and peppy sound :rainbow::magnifying_glass_tilted_right:

I’ve got a few questions about [name_m]Keeper[/name_m], and I was wondering if you berries could help me answer them :sun:

Firstly, do you think [name_m]Keeper[/name_m] is usable in the real world? Would his quirkiness grow well with an adult, or is he better for imaginary lists?

Also, what middles would you pair with [name_m]Keeper[/name_m]? I want something that brings out his color and spark, while still feeling approachable and usable.

And finally, and most importantly, what other names would you suggest that have a similar vibe to [name_m]Keeper[/name_m]? I love his bright, colorful appeal, but it’s so hard to find other boys names that give me that same spark :high_voltage:

i think [name_m]Keeper[/name_m] is totally usable, and i love him for you especially :white_heart:

I feel like it’s not usable at first, but then if I look at the type of names that are in fashion now, I don’t see why not.

oh, i LOVE keeper and i think he is perfect for your list! to answer your questions. . .

  1. i think keeper is perfectly useable for the real world. one of the reasons i fell in love with keeper is because i met a kiddo named keeper!
  2. ooh, i will suggest keeper john, keeper wade, keeper declan, keeper finneas and keeper maxwell :lizard:

I personally don’t think it’s usable as a first name. Mayyyybe as a middle name? [name_m]The[/name_m] only association I have with the word “keeper” is in the phrase “oh, he’s a keeper!”, referring to a romantic interest, which makes it feel a) kind of awkward to me in practice, and b) maybe a bit iffy on a young child. Maybe I’m overthinking it, but I do get a bit of an ick from that association.

[name_m]Keeper[/name_m] could grow on me? I’m not sure I’ve thought about it as a name before, so I think I just need to sit with it (just for me personally!) for a bit

I think it’s usable! -er names for boys are very “in” right now - [name_m]Cooper[/name_m] (which sounds very similar to Keeper!), [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m], [name_m]Hunter[/name_m], [name_m]Carter[/name_m], [name_m]Sawyer[/name_m] etc. I think maybe some people would hear it as [name_m]Cooper[/name_m] at first, only because it’s not super common as a first name, but that’s not a bad thing!

  1. I think he’d work best in a US context. In Australia, being (still) a cricket /sports mad country, “keeper” is probably just that too much associated with the role in a sporting game, and we use “let it through to the keeper” metaphorically (ie let something slide). Then all the “he’s a keeper (or not)” chat re relationships etc. I know Americans have some similar uses (read the comment above after typing this) but I think your heritage of ER role/occupation-names (Baker, Thatcher, Cooper etc) and your more religious history (where Keeper sounds a little like a Puritan/Calvinist virtue name) together make it work and not stand out / trip people up in the same way it would in Oz. Not to put off any Australians, just think some extra baggage/ slight teasing potential to expect.

  2. Keeper Hugh, Keeper Thomas, Keeper Finlay/ Finnian, Keeper Harrison, Keeper Cyrus, Keeper Timothy, Keeper Silas, Keeper Seamus, Keeper Willoughby, Keeper Jude, Keeper Charlie, Keeper Vincent, Keeper James, Keeper Stuart, Keeper Hawthorne.

On one hand, I think it goes along with the likes of [name_m]Cooper[/name_m], [name_m]Brewer[/name_m], [name_m]Colter[/name_m], and [name_m]Parker[/name_m] – and with wilder or simply rarer -er choices too: [name_m]Carver[/name_m], [name_m]Kiefer[/name_m], [name_m]Roller[/name_m], [name_m]Whittier[/name_m], Kepler…

I do like the idea of [name_m]Keeper[/name_m] relating to protection – and it has a kind of active and outdoorsy feel to it. Plus, it was the name of [name_f]Emily[/name_f] Bronte’s dog :grin:

My hold up on the name though is that idea of someone being a ‘keeper’, in the sense of both ‘keeping’ and controlling someone else, and o being worth keeping, as if they might not have been??

I don’t know – that might just be me. And if it is, I don’t think it’s too far off other contemporary choices that it feels obscene.

Hmmm, I’m pretty neutral on [name_m]Keeper[/name_m]. I’ve actually never heard him as a name before, and in my mind he sounds more like a word than a name (silly, because I have so many word names on my lists). Maybe it’s also because he seems like more of a name for a pet? No idea where that association comes from. Anyway, while he’s not my style, I really enjoy [name_m]Keeper[/name_m] with your other boys! [name_m]Sumner[/name_m], [name_m]Cordell[/name_m], [name_m]Gardener[/name_m], [name_m]Oakes[/name_m], and [name_m]Harbour[/name_m] from your UC have a super cohesive feel with him! Definitely see the appeal, and the quirky vibrancy you’re getting!

I have never heard of [name_m]Keeper[/name_m] before - to the point where I was wondering who on earth would use it. But, seeing as a few commenter have actually heard this name out in the wild I’m a bit flabbergasted and slightly less concerned as this apparently is a name elsewhere.

Personally this is a no for me. (Zoo keeper…grounds keeper…the others have mentioned other fair drawbacks to consider.)

2nd @Krikit suggestion of [name_m]Keegan[/name_m].

[name_m]Cooper[/name_m] has been mentioned a couple times and could be another good alternative.

@Greyblue had nice suggestions for names with similar vibes (Kepler, [name_m]Keifer[/name_m], etc.)

Although for me personally it’s a definite no, obviously it’s up to you and what’s right for you.

I live in the south of the US. Definitely would be weird here, but other occupational names might help [name_m]Keeper[/name_m] be accepted. I feel like initially most people would have problems with it then eventually get over it.

I’m having a hard time coming up with middle names for [name_m]Keeper[/name_m]. Maybe [name_m]Ray[/name_m], or a family honor name. I’d put [name_m]Keeper[/name_m] in the middle - but again, that’s just me.

I really like [name_m]Keeper[/name_m]! He reminds me of the name Kemmer — the name of a girl I went to school with for years, whose name I thought was quite cool. If she could make it work, I think [name_m]Keeper[/name_m] is 1,000% doable. It has such a poetic feel to me.

I love the vibe of [name_m]Keeper[/name_m], and think he’s so fun! With that being said (and ignoring my hypocrisy as someone who loves out-there names), I do see him getting a few raised brows. As a middle, I think he 100% works, but I’m a bit apprehensive of him in the first spot. I agree with others that it sounds like a sports position (and the “He’s a keeper” note s valid), but then again, I met a preteen boy named [name_m]Trapper[/name_m] last summer, so maybe those worries are a bit misplaced?

For combos, I think I’d be tempted to go with something wacky like [name_m]Keeper[/name_m] [name_m]Alcott[/name_m], [name_m]Keeper[/name_m] Alcove (too guilty pleasure, but I have to give him a shout out), or [name_m]Keeper[/name_m] [name_m]Garland[/name_m]. Realistically, I think if I had a [name_m]Keeper[/name_m], his full name might be something like [name_m]Keeper[/name_m] [name_m]Finnian[/name_m].
