[name_f]My[/name_f] friend just texted me a picture of a raccoon she got from outside and we want to name it [name_m]Cooper[/name_m]. However, we don’t know the gender of said raccoon yet, so any feminine alternatives to [name_m]Cooper[/name_m] would be appreciated just in case it turns out to be female.
Wait, this is a real raccoon?? That she took from the wild??? Is it injured? I need more information!
Perhaps they could be called [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], or [name_f]Coppelia[/name_f], if you want something close to [name_m]Cooper[/name_m].
I agree with needing some elaboration! Maybe [name_f]Stella[/name_f] or [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] would work? [name_m]Or[/name_m] you could use [name_m]Cooper[/name_m] for a girl too?
@seawillow [name_f]Coppelia[/name_f] is a good option!
@daisydarcy [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] are both cute!
She didn’t tell me much information either. All she did was text me a few pictures of the raccoon wrapped up a blue blanket and taking a nap. The only context she gave me was that her and her parents found it outside their house and that it wasn’t injured, and it wasn’t hostile. I thought it wasn’t very smart to take in a random animal like that, given it could be diseased and whatnot, but I’m going to leave it up to her judgement as to what she does with it.

Hey, I know this isn’t on the subject of names, but I’m actually a former zookeeper who used to work with raccoons. If the raccoon is not injured or requiring human intervention, your friend should definitely let it go. Raccoons are rabies vectors so it can be quite dangerous to interact with a wild raccoon. Not to mention, they require specialized care and can be unpredictable and difficult to deal with if you are not trained or prepared for them. If the animal is injured or does require human intervention, the best thing to do is to contact a certified wildlife rehabber. Additionally, depending on the jurisdiction it may actually be against the law to take in the raccoon if not certified.
FWIW, the names of the raccoons I worked with were:
[name_f]Effie[/name_f], Ragley, Bunkie, [name_m]Frodo[/name_m], Ferriday, [name_f]Eunice[/name_f] (f)
[name_m]Baker[/name_m], [name_m]Benton[/name_m], [name_m]Baldwin[/name_m] (m)
Thanks for the info, man! I’ll definitely relay this information to my friend. The names Baldwin, Ferriday, and Ragley are cute!
