lately i’ve been loving the name rafe! the only thing i don’t love is that it sounds and looks like some more undesirable words such as “rage.” is this something that other people think of, or is it just me overthinking?
Ugh this is so tough for me, since I usually like names like these. However, [name_u]Rafe[/name_u] looks and especially sounds a little too close to a word that’s even worse than “rage” for me, so I wouldn’t use it.
Maybe you’d like [name_m]Raff[/name_m] or [name_m]Rafi[/name_m] better?
I’ve always though this was pronounced as ‘raf’, like raft without the T. I don’t like rayf at all, it’s sounds way too similar to rape. I like how [name_u]Rafe[/name_u] looks more than [name_m]Raff[/name_m] but I would pronounce it the same as [name_m]Raff[/name_m]
Yeah, this is my problem with it too. I like it and if I met one, I would be able to look over that and probably come to see it just as their name, but it does give me pause.
I prefer it more as a nickname but it’s not bad, provided the [name_u]Rafe[/name_u] isn’t super ragey!
Watch out for rifle references.
i might be in the minority here but i absolutely adore rafe!!! he’s probably my second favourite boy name. i personally don’t make any word associations with rafe- i can see how others do, but for me it’s not something that comes to mind. i’ve never thought of rage when i think of rafe!
I have to agree with everyone else about the other 4-letter r-word. more than that, it bothers me immensely that it’s extremely possible that if you yell out “Rafe!” in a public area, people might hear… that
Not at all! I would love it for my boys’ list if I didn’t have negative associations from someone growing up.
It is said “Ray-f” as far as I’m aware.
I like [name_u]Rafe[/name_u]. It reminds me of the character in the movie [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_u]Harbor[/name_u].
More so than the other word mentioned, it reminds me of chafe. But that’s just in my head
Yes I hear rape too
I prefer the [name_m]Ralph[/name_m] spelling
[name_u]Rafe[/name_u] has a different vibe to me that I’m less keen on but I don’t think of rage but of rape.
I know a little boy called [name_u]Rafe[/name_u], he’s funny and adventurous. It suits him well and doesn’t get confused for other ra** words.
In retrospect, maybe the “Rifle” reference was pretty harsh but I still see it, alongside wafers.
