Rainier?

What do you think of [name]Rainier[/name] for a boy? DH and I lived in Seattle for 4 years and miss it SOOOOOOO bad and hope to move back someday. We’d love to have a [name]Pacific[/name] Northwest inspired name, but they’re all so strange and hard to pronounce. [name]How[/name] about Puyallup??? But [name]Rainier[/name] has been growing on me.

By the way, this is pronounced [name]Ray[/name]-NEER.

No one?

Great mountain, great name

I’m also a Seattle native and I’ve toyed with this name too. My main reservation is that we are now moving back to Seattle after quite a few years away, and I don’t know if it would be too much to live next to the mountain and share its name. Or maybe that just makes it better! Anyway, I’d love to meet a little boy named [name]Rainier[/name].

Edited to add a list of Seattle-y names (some of these are quite a stretch)
More usable, less distinct:
[name]Elliott[/name] ([name]Elliott[/name] [name]Bay[/name])
[name]Adam[/name] (Mt. [name]Adams[/name])
[name]Stuart[/name] ([name]Stuart[/name] [name]Range[/name])
[name]Casey[/name] ([name]Fort[/name] [name]Casey[/name])
[name]Lewis[/name]
[name]Clark[/name]
[name]Thurston[/name] (County)
[name]Pierce[/name] (County)

Less usable, more distinct:
Alki
[name]Pike[/name]
Whidbey
Ebey
[name]Burke[/name] ([name]Burke[/name] Museum)
[name]Ballard[/name]
Phinney
[name]Fremont[/name]
[name]Ludlow[/name]
Coho (OK, maybe not at all usable! But it sounds nice  )

What great ideas! … but so many of them already used in the family. Sigh. [name]Even[/name] on DOGS… I hate when that happens. Your list makes me smile… I immediately thought of [name]Elliot[/name] [name]Bay[/name] Pizza on [name]Queen[/name] [name]Anne[/name] hill and getting poison oak at Camp [name]Casey[/name]. But I’m glad to hear someone else likes [name]Rainier[/name]. I wouldn’t want it shorted to [name]Ray[/name] though… that would be sad. DH is a big time name shortener. Maybe as a middle name. Hmmm…

I used to live in Seattle too about a decade ago, this post brings back good memories! ahh [name]Queen[/name] [name]Anne[/name] [name]Hill[/name]! [name]Magnolia[/name], Leschi

I really like the name [name]Rainier[/name] for a boy. I think it is very distinguished and also cool sounding as well! I agree I would also not want it shortened to [name]Ray[/name].

i have been considering this name too! my husband and i moved with our son out to WA from across the country and fell in love with the [name]Pacific[/name] Northwest. we headed back to the midwest much too soon but would love a Northwest inspired name.
i don’t like [name]Ray[/name] as a nn but i dont think that is a problem. if i were you i would totally go for it!!! my only reservation is our last name ends in -er.
but i still might do it, or for a middle.

[name]How[/name] about [name]Rainy[/name] as a nickname? Very PNW.

I like it. My only problem is being torn between wanting to say it like the mountain and feeling that it “should” be said the French way - ren-ee-yay, I believe. I expect that you’ll usually get ray-neer in the US.
