I am sure I’ll get a lot of “not my style” but I recently met a beautiful girl named [name_m]Ramsey[/name_m] and I really liked it and thought it was so unique - will my daughter hate me though?
It’s not bad, if it flows nicely with your last name and is paired with a more feminine middle. Not a bad surname for a first name, as far as that trend goes. I don’t think your daughter will hate you
although she will sometimes be mistaken for a boy by name. If you choose it, I would go with a middle that she could easily go by if she doesn’t like it.
(I also want to add, in terms of these surnames as first names, girls are often faced with problems when they marry, if their first name really clashes with their married last name. For instance, [name_m]Ramsey[/name_m] [name_u]Murray[/name_u] or anything else that ends with y doesn’t sound great. [name_m]Just[/name_m] something to keep in mind.)
Doubt your daughter would hate you, but I really do not like it at all. It seems a bit silly on either gender, and reminds me of a stuffy old English butler from the 1800s working for a spoiled, wealthy family. [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] could be shortened to [name_m]Ramsey[/name_m] I suppose though, if you like that idea?
I love the suggestion of [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] nn [name_m]Ramsey[/name_m]!
Though it is definitely not my style, the main reason I’d avoid using it is because in the States, there was a notorious murder of a little girl named JonBenet [name_m]Ramsey[/name_m], and that’s the first thing I think of when I hear the name and probably an association that many Americans will have.
I know a girl named [name_m]Ramsey[/name_m]. She goes by her middle name, and it really doesn’t suit a girl at all in my opinion. It’s far too rugged.
[name_m]Ramsey[/name_m] is a very harsh name for either gender.
A little too [name_m]Jon[/name_m] [name_m]Benet[/name_m] for me.
Not really feeling it. Made me think of [name_m]Ramses[/name_m] II (a pharaoh) then [name_m]Dave[/name_m] [name_m]Ramsey[/name_m] (the financial advice guy) then a [name_m]Ram[/name_m] (a sheep). Not very girly associations.
I don’t particularly like it on either gender, but I can definitely understand liking a name because of someone you met
[name_m]Ramsay[/name_m] (Scottish spelling) is on our list for a baby boy next year.
