I’ve been finding I’m a little bored with some of the names on my boys’ list and am considering reviving it with some fresh names to my list. One of my favorite name groups for boys is rare Bible names. Would love to know your favorites and/or ones you would be happy to come across. There’s some I’m considering (Adlai, Ben-Ami (which, not sure this is Biblical, but it is Hebrew), Abner, etc.), but am looking for inspiration.
ETA this list of crushes, would love to know your thoughts on these specifically, but also still open to suggestions!
Abner
Asaph (as Asa is a first on my list, this would probably only be in consideration as a middle, but I still like it a lot)
Barzillai
Ben-Ami
Reuel
Samson/Sampson
Zephan
Zimri
Rare Biblical names are so much fun. I’m constantly discovering new ones! Some recent favourites of mine are:
Haahashtari, meaning “Runner” Abdias, meaning “Servant of God” Elim, meaning “Place of strong trees” Zeror, meaning “Bundle” Tikvah, meaning “Hope” - ok this is a girls name these days I’m just remembering, but I love it so I’m leaving it here
Thank you, everyone! [name_f][/name_f] Quite a few of these are already on my list (Aquila, [name_m]Boaz[/name_m], [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m], [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m], [name_m]Asa[/name_m], [name_m]Mordecai[/name_m], [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f], [name_m]Eliel[/name_m], [name_m]Theophilus[/name_m], Caspar), so you’re on the right track!

I love these:
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Absalom[/name_m] (although agree, namesake isn’t the best) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Barzillai[/name_m] ([name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f] if this was mentioned multiple times, does that mean [name_m]Barzillai[/name_m] is not too outlandish to use anymore?! [name_f][/name_f] I’ve loved him for years, but just found him too out there to actually use) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Gamaliel[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Micaiah[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Lazarus[/name_m] (I just wish I could find a nn I like for it!) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Zephan[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Jericho[/name_m]
[name_m]Amzi[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Elioenai[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Motshan[/name_m] (I think Yiddish or Hebrew, but relating to Moses) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Chilion[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Jetur[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Shama[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Libni[/name_m]
@alix2016[name_f][/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- I have to agree with @seawillow[name_f][/name_f], your kiddos’ names are[name_f][/name_f] the best! [name_f][/name_f] Especially swooning over [name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_m]Blessing[/name_m], what a sweet and beautiful name!
[name_f][/name_f][name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Amzi[/name_m] is really interesting!
[name_f][/name_f]
I also am so intrigued by the look of [name_m]Elioenai[/name_m] but can’t envision it not being a nightmare to say. [name_f][/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Lael[/name_m] is super cool! [name_f][/name_f] Since [name_f]Liel[/name_f] is usually considered feminine, I always find [name_m]Lael[/name_m] to be a bit feminine too, but I love how it looks. [name_f][/name_f] And Alphaeus/Alpheus is on my list of considerations! [name_f][/name_f] I’ve been considering it as a middle lately. [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]My[/name_f] nephew goes almost exclusively by Alf!e so I don’t think I could use it up front, but it is a really fun name!
[name_f][/name_f]
Probably going to edit it into the OP, but I have a list of ones I’m quite interested in at this point, would love thoughts on these in general:
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Abner[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Asaph[/name_m] (as [name_m]Asa[/name_m] is a first on my list, this would probably only be in consideration as a middle, but I still like it a lot) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Barzillai[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]Ben-Ami [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reuel[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]Samson/Sampson [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Zephan[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Zimri[/name_m]
