I think I would eventually like to come back to writing, after a months-long hiatus. However, I have now decided to write under a pen name rather than my real name. I only send these works to my classmates or friends, but maybe I would like to branch out and publish it or for the very least, put it online. I don’t want to use my real name for any purposes so I would like a pen name.
My chosen first name is very classic, and something that relates to my name, along the lines of Mary or Ella. I want a rarer last name to go with her. The problem with most last names that I’ve found is that they sound too fantasy-like and not real & grounded. I am open to obscure word names or poetic last names.
Here are some I have thought of, to give you an idea
Florifer - “bearer of flowers”
Lightkeeper - “lighthouse keeper” (

Moonglade - “the bright reflection of moonlight on a body of water”
Vespertine - “occuring in the evening”
I also liked Alpenglow but the sounds ran into the first name, as well as Hathaway & Knight but I’m not too keen on them. I definitely want something magical yet elegant.
I mostly write fantasy or thriller novels. I plan on adding sci-fi to my repertoire as well as historical fiction & romance. Something that appeals to readers of all genres and is generally sweet, magical, charming & refined is wanted. Drop you rare last names here!

This page has a file that contains all surnames that were used more than 100 times in the 2010 US census (File B, at the bottom). I use it when creating new last names for characters, etc.
