The complete name data for the babies of [name_u]Berlin[/name_u] 2020 was released yesterday. They publish every single name and middle name by district (not collated for the city), so I still need to check it over to confirm the top names.
Nonetheless, as a taster, here are some of the names given to a handful of babies that I spotted whilst reading through the data… some beautiful, some less so, but I’ll leave that up to you guys to decide which
Realy intrigued by Adamanthe, Florestan, [name_m]Odin[/name_m], [name_m]Thorin[/name_m], [name_f]Katinka[/name_f], [name_f]Oriel[/name_f] (not usable in [name_f]English[/name_f]-speaking places but still lovely), [name_f]Ernestine[/name_f] and [name_m]Adriel[/name_m]!
Some of these make me cringe. I suppose I don’t have to sum up which ones Okay, maybe I will say this: Peculiar, really? Lamborghini? How are these even allowed? I always imagined [name_m]German[/name_m] naming laws to be a bit more strict than this.
Being too strict is a bit ridiculous (although in Iceland you have to chose from a not-so-long list and I don’t think I’d mind it that much), but surely naming your child something like Lamborghini shouldn’t be allowed. I’m all for uncommon names when they have a history etc, but this is just… I won’t say child abuse, but seriously? Anyway, I’ll calm down now
I completely agree. I also feel sorry for poor baby Peculiar. The level of [name_f]English[/name_f] of most Berliners is pretty high, so they are likely to know what that word means!
