Oh, this is why I love [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]! So many great nicknames.
My favourites are:
[name_f]Betsan[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilla[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Beth[/name_f]
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f]
[name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilibet[/name_f]
I’d call my [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Elle[/name_f], or [name_f]Ellie[/name_f].
joiya:
I’ve only known [name_f]Effie[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Euphemia[/name_f], but then again [name_f]Tettie[/name_f] is a nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as well, and it makes no sense. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_m]Driver[/name_m] calls herself [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], and that is not a real nickname for [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], but she used it. My guess is that someone just started using [name_f]Effy[/name_f]/[name_f]Effie[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and other people liked it so it grew.
Someone on the linked discussion suggested that [name_f]Effie[/name_f] makes sense because a child would pronounce [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as Elsabef before they formed their words well. Makes sense to me!
