[name_m]Just[/name_m] wondering what you favorite nicknames for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] are. I have had suggestion of [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and [name_f]Effie[/name_f]… I adore [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]. I knew an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] that went by [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]. I would love to hear your suggestions!!!
*** We have one daughter , [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]…who we lovingly call [name_f]Fifi[/name_f] <3 What we like about her NN is that is fits, but isn’t expected. We are looking for the same with Elizabeth. Thanks!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] all the suggestions above. My good friend is [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nn Zizzy. So cute and fun! I also know an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nn [name_m]Eli[/name_m] (E-lie, like [name_m]Elijah[/name_m]).
I could also see Biz, Bizzie, or [name_f]Zibby[/name_f].
My favorite nn for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] but that may be way too expected.
I’ve tried to avoid repeating any from previous posts so here it is my list. Some of these are from other languages and I’ve posted where from if I remembered to take note.

[name_f]Ibby[/name_f] and Isby are the last two I can think of. They are technically both nicknames for [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], but they work for her classic sister too.
My first idea was [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f]? Other than that… I’m not sure. Most of them, while not as popular as [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f] or [name_f]Beth[/name_f], still feel quite familiar–[name_f]Ella[/name_f]/[name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_u]Izzy[/name_u], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Betty[/name_f], [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_f]Bess/name_f, [name_f]Lily[/name_f], etc. When I was looking for suggestions for suggestions for a full name for [name_f]Tess[/name_f] or [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] that WASN’T either [name_f]Theresa[/name_f]/[name_f]Therese[/name_f] or [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]/[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f], I got the suggestion of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]/[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] for both, and I have to say, I love the idea of [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tess[/name_f] or [name_f]Tilly[/name_f]!
There’s also just [name_f]Lise[/name_f], maybe? Much less common than [name_f]Elise[/name_f], but familiar, a la [name_f]Elise[/name_f] and [name_u]Lisa[/name_u]. I love [name_f]Lise[/name_f]. Also [name_f]Etta[/name_f], maybe?
Liis derives from [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (ii is prounced like long e, like in the name [name_u]Lee[/name_u]). It’s originally Danish but has been very popular in Estonia.
Wow! I am loving all these names!!! Especially Bitzy, Liddy, and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] (I had totally forgotten about [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]!)
Also, I have a question…I am still loving [name_f]Effy[/name_f]/[name_f]Effie[/name_f]… But I know people in [name_f]Missouri[/name_f] are going to ask me how in the world did you get Iffy from [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]? lol! I have always heard that it was nn for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] so for me it’s just the norm. Does anyone know the history behind it?
I’ve only known [name_f]Effie[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Euphemia[/name_f], but then again [name_f]Tettie[/name_f] is a nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as well, and it makes no sense. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_m]Driver[/name_m] calls herself [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], and that is not a real nickname for [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], but she used it. My guess is that someone just started using [name_f]Effy[/name_f]/[name_f]Effie[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and other people liked it so it grew.
Someone on the linked discussion suggested that [name_f]Effie[/name_f] makes sense because a child would pronounce [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as Elsabef before they formed their words well. Makes sense to me!
In my family [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is used for the oldest daughter and they go often by their nn.
We got:
[name_f]Liesbeth[/name_f] (Lees-beth)
[name_u]Lisa[/name_u]
[name_f]Zaza[/name_f] she is just a toddler so we are calling her Zazou…
[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]
[name_f]Iza[/name_f]
