I actually am from Germany (if I stay here or not very much depends on the stupidity that is the idea of Brexit) but I fell in love with [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] after watching, reading and listening to [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] (mainly watching, though). It’s not a name that is perceived as vintage-chic here (yet) but then I’m a few years away from having children and [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] has never been popular enough to be seen as incredibly dated or old and [name_m]Ed[/name_m] always makes it more approachable. However, while I don’t talk much about names with my family, I did mention liking [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] once (must have been after watching [name_f]Narnia[/name_f]) and the reactions weren’t positive but also not negative (but then I don’t really care as I don’t love all the names they like either…)

[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] doesn’t have any special meaning to me, I just really like the name

[name_m]Edgar[/name_m] [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] does seem to get a lot of love around here, it’s a combo I came up with in a few seconds, both names were on a list I was skimming and they just stuck with me and each other! However, as I cannot see me with an [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] or a [name_m]Leopold[/name_m], it’s just a name I admire a lot and would love to see on another person’s kid

I do pronounce [name_f]Ada[/name_f], Ay-da, in English, anyway (I wouldn’t use it in [name_m]German[/name_m], [name_m]AH[/name_m]-da is lacking a bit of oomph as a full name to me and I’m not fond of any longer forms).

Who is the nasty tv character named [name_f]Flora[/name_f]? I’m always interested in associations other people have, especially those that aren’t just people they know but book, tv or movie characters (or famous people).

[name_f]Rose[/name_f]- I love, love [name_f]Rose[/name_f]! It has a beautiful, simple sound. It reminds me of a scene in the 2nd chapter of The Great [name_m]Gatsby[/name_m]: a character refers to a visitor as a “rose” because she sees him as somewhat of a blessing to her house. I don’t know. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is a beautiful classic nonetheless, and meshes together very well with any other names.
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m]- ditto [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] is effortlessly cool, and has a familiar and friendly sound. I love it!

[name_f]Ada[/name_f]-Fashionable and sweet.
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]-[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]! It’s one of my favorites. Great association with Adventures in Wonderland, with a sweet but capable sound beside.
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]-Not one of my favorites, but like [name_f]Ada[/name_f], it is fashionable and sweet. It makes me think of a pleasant, warm dark purple/mauve color.
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]-I love [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. It’s like [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. A woman I know had a baby girl today and her name is either [name_f]Jane[/name_f] or [name_u]June[/name_u] (2 different sources). I was excited either way; [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is a beautiful, simple classic.
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]-Aaah I love [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] so much. [name_u]Legend[/name_u] of [name_m]King[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] gives it a great image (and I personally am drawn to the [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_m]Miller[/name_m] connection). It has a handsome sound.
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]-[name_m]Henry[/name_m] isn’t my favorite because I (for my taste) don’t find it strong, but I think it fits in well with today’s names.
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]-[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] ([name_m]Victor[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] Cabret). It’s also a very handsome name.
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]-I personally think this is one name too many, but they’re all fine names. I love [name_f]Rose[/name_f] in the first name spot.
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]-ditto. Although all these names go very, very well together.
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]-I prefer [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] to [name_m]Henry[/name_m].
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]-very sweet name.

[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]-a little too cool  I feel like [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] needs a more laidback middle. That may just be my point of view, though.
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Flora[/name_f]-so pretty!
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_f]Edith[/name_f]-also very pretty.
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]-you have skill in pairing girl’s names. These are not names I would generally consider myself, but they create a vivid image-this is a purple name. (probably because of [name_f]Violet[/name_f], haha)
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]-not as pretty as [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Flora[/name_f].
[name_m]Edgar[/name_m] [name_m]Leopold[/name_m]-I find [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] to be a bit much, but [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] is cool.
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]-this name is growing on me, but I’m not sure if I could use it yet. I would use it in the front if you come to really love it-it seems a little special to put in the middle ?
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]-I prefer it in the middle.

@keelyjoelle
I have a sister called [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and I absolutely love her name (I suggested it), however, I wouldn’t want there to be two Matildas, possibly with the same last name though I still don’t want to not use it at all…

[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] isn’t only a family name for me, I also think it grounds [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], makes it more serene, a little less quirky, but then I’m also used to two middle names, so unless all three are super over-the-top, I tend to think it’s the perfect amount of names
And it seems that people view [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] very different spending on where they’re from; here, [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] isn’t posh or cool or super quirky but rather it’s a pretty normal vintage name along the lines of [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] (though less popular).

Oh, and thanks for commenting, I appreciate it!

@opheliaflora

Knowing now that [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is your sister’s name, I think that it makes for a very sweet and meaningful middle name. Considering [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], and the question of number of middle names, it occurred to me that we live in different countries and that naming tradition and history in Germany is comparably different than that in the US! And you are right that [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] grounds [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f].

In short, I think all your names are very pretty, and wearable with a history of usage. The names are all well-equipped with familiarity and maturity. I don’t think you’ll have any trouble picking beautiful names for your future children

[name_f]Ada[/name_f] - gorgeous! Sweet and simple
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Alice[/name_f], but there’s something about it that just isn’t…perfect
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] - It’s a little too flowery for me, but very pretty and classical
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] - very boring, imo
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] - I like it as a first name, its pretty and simple. As a middle name, its far too overused.
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] - It’s a bit too ‘over the top royal’ for me
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] - I love [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]! So handsome
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] - [name_f]Adore[/name_f] [name_m]Henry[/name_m], shame its so popular
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] - Nms.

[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] makes me think of The Hunger Games for some reason
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] - [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] is okay, but what I said about [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] earlier.
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] - same as above
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] - I like this. I’m not big on [name_f]Mary[/name_f] at all though, but the combo is pretty

[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] - Its not bad, I love [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] but feel [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] spoils it
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Flora[/name_f] - for you, I think this is a perfect combo!
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_f]Edith[/name_f] - same as above - [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is gorgeous!
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] - Oh I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f], but [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is just so…plain
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] - this is lovely

[name_m]Edgar[/name_m] [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] - This is nice, I especially like [name_m]Leopold[/name_m]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] - so pretty! [name_u]Love[/name_u] it!
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] - same as above - gorgeous!
