[name_f]Mirabel[/name_f]

My favourites are [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] and [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]. I think they’re lovely and very charming!
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f] and [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f] are the ones that don’t really work for me as much.

From most-to-least favourite, I would say ~
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f] (absolutely delightful!)
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] (really loving this at the moment!)
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] (winnie and freddie are both adorable, and I like that it’s slightly witchy)

[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (I adore [name_u]Josie[/name_u] as a nn)
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] (I like it as a nn for [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f], and it’s definitely sweet, just not my favourite)
[name_f]Mirabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] (just not as exciting)

Honora - 5/10. I might like it more if I was more familiar with it. I love [name_u]Honor[/name_u] :woman_shrugging:t3:

Dorothy 8/10. It’s lovely. The nicknames [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] and [name_f]Dora[/name_f] for little ones are adorable. It would be a 9 or 10 if it didn’t also have slight old lady vibes for me!

Rosemary 2/10. Least favourite of the [name_f]Rose[/name_f] names for me. I don’t like the smell of the herb, which is an obscure reason for being put off but there we go!

Josephine 10/10. I love it. It reminds me of my sister [name_u]Josie[/name_u] who passed away.

Lucille 8/10. The seel sound at the end is rare and I like a pretty name that doesn’t end in ‘a’ for once

Marjorie 6/10. I want to give this name more love, it sounds great. Old lady vibes again though but I want to move past that!

Evangeline 3/10. I have a problematic history with evangelism, which makes it a tricky name for me! Objectively I think it’s a beautiful long name though.

Vera 8/10. V names are awesome! Short names are awesome! I’d love to see it used more.

Winifred 1/10. I can’t find [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] a nice sound. I like [name_m]Fred[/name_m] in other names for girls but not here with [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] :frowning:

Mirabel 5/10. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name but unfortunately makes me think of an arrogant privileged girl. Waiting to have this association erased so I can give it the love it deserves!

Honora–7/10; pretty but kind of hard to say. Nice meaning.
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]–4/10; just sounds dated to me.
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]—9/10; gentle, soft, evocative
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]—5/10; a lot to wear, but [name_u]Jojo[/name_u] is awesome !
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f]–3/10; not my fav
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f]—3/10; someone’s elderly aunt.
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]—8/10; lovely sound, great meaning.
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]—6/10; simple yet spunky
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f]—7/10; only rated it high for the [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] nickname
[name_f]Mirabel[/name_f]—8/10; delicate and other worldly

Marjorie - Really liking this one right now. Very cute.

Rosemary - Gorgeous, and I love the herb

Vera - I pronounce it as veh-rah, but it sounds good either way.

Evangeline - Lots of nickname capabilities

Mirabel - I associate this strongly with a character, so it’s not really useable for me, but it sounds fine

Honora - Kind of cute, pretty regal

Winifred - Not a fan

Josephine - Sounds pretty stuffy

Dorothy - Very, very old vibes

Honora 7/10 I like this [name_f]Nora[/name_f] as nn. It’s lovely
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] 2/10 [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] is cute, but wizard of oz and old woman imagery
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] 3/10 this is a middle aged/elderly woman name where I am, lots of women aged 45-90 so don’t think it’s quite ready for a comeback [name_f]Rose[/name_f] however is lovely
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] - 8/10 love this, lots of nn possibilities [name_u]Josie[/name_u], [name_u]Jo[/name_u], [name_f]Effie[/name_f], fi, fifi. Also really love [name_f]Josefina[/name_f]. Obviously connections to little women and napoleon
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f] 6/10 I think this is pretty and elegant, I prefer [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] though
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] 0/10 - old woman name, looks and sounds horrible. Also aunt [name_f]Marge[/name_f] from [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] 7/10 this is beautiful, great meaning, lots of shortening possibilities, [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f], Angelie, angel, [name_f]Lina[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] , evelina, everly. [name_f]My[/name_f] first thought with this is always nanny mcphee however
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] 5/10 it’s ok, makes me think [name_f]Vera[/name_f] Wang and [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u]. Not necessarily bad connections but [name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] makes it feel old to me
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] 2/10 immediately think of the annoying girl in Ballet shoes. But also it feels like a really outdated name. [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is nice though.
[name_f]Mirabel[/name_f] 2/10 it’s a fruit isn’t it? Falls from our bushes is orange. Sounds like a horse name.

[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] - 10/10 and love nn [name_f]Dot[/name_f], been crushing on this lately
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] - 6/10 don’t love this but like nn [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]

Honora 6.5/10 - lovely, underused name! For reference, I’m pronouncing it as on-OR-uh, not honor-with-an-a
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] 3/10 - I know this name is widely liked on here, but I’m afraid I just can’t get behind it. It’s very mid-century, not ready for revival to me
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] 4/10 - not for me
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] 9/10 - great name!
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f] 6/10 - nice name! Fits all ages, especially with the nickname, [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] 6/10 - I really like this one! It’s funny, because I feel like I always see people saying that this name is too mid-century, not ready for revival, but I don’t associate it with that time period at all! I think of this absolutely sweet girl that was on a season of ANTM
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] 1/10 - too OTT for me
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] 7/10 - great name!
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] 2.5/10 - I like the nickname, [name_u]Freddie[/name_u], a lot! But I’m not crazy about [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], I’m afraid
[name_f]Mirabel[/name_f] 6/10 - sweet! I like this one a lot, I just have a hard time imagining it on all age ranges

Hi there.

Here are my favorite to least favorite rankings:

Josephine-It’s just such a perfect name. It’s classic, elegant, sophisticated, a little sassy, a little adventurous. I like it on its own, but my favorite nn is [name_f]Posey[/name_f]. [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is okay. I don’t care for [name_u]Jo[/name_u] or [name_u]Joey[/name_u] personally.

Lucille-This is lovely too. Old fashioned & smart, but still has a little sass. Very similar to [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], really. [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] & [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] are cheerful adorable nns.

Mirabel-This is nice. Soft, sweet, feminine but not fussy, simple but not over done. [name_f]Mira[/name_f] & [name_f]Miri[/name_f] are great nns too.

Dorothy-I like it. It’s friendly, a little spunky, & very vintage. But totally ready for a comeback.

Honora-I’d really prefer [name_f]Anora[/name_f] for some reason, but I like the sound of this. It’s kind of epic, but the nn [name_f]Nora[/name_f] is soft & sweet.

Rosemary-The only ‘[name_f]Rose[/name_f]’ name that I can’t get into. I think it’s because of ‘[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]’s [name_u]Baby[/name_u]’. I’ve never seen it, but it sounds creepy.

Vera-A name that I should like, but can’t get into. [name_m]Just[/name_m] doesn’t sound that pretty to me, but it’s short, vintage & I wouldn’t be disappointed to meet a little [name_f]Vera[/name_f].

Winifred-I love love [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] just sounds a little clunky in my opinion, but it’s not bad.

Majorie-[name_m]Just[/name_m] not my cup of tea. I don’t care for the ‘marge’ sound. It’s unexpected though, which is fun.

Evangeline-I feel like this one is on everyones list. I just don’t like it. It’s too much.

Hope this helps.

Honora - 4/10 not a huge fan of the sound but nn [name_f]Nora[/name_f] would be very sweet!

Dorothy - 6.5/10 this is such a gentle and beautiful name with lovely nn options too. The [name_m]Wizard[/name_m] of [name_m]Oz[/name_m] association slightly puts me off i feel like a [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] might get ‘somewhere over the rainbow’ sang at her quite frequently :joy: but i do love it!

Rosemary - 9/10 So beautiful and elegant. I just love this so much!!

Josephine - 7/10 Very pretty and refined nn [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is adorable.

Lucille - 5/10 I’m neutral on [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] the sound isn’t my favourite I prefer the simpler [name_f]Lucy[/name_f].

Marjorie - 5/10 not a bad name, just a little stuffy for me.

Evangeline - 7/10 So pretty!! I adore this.

Vera - 8/10 Aww I would love to see a little [name_f]Vera[/name_f] it has such a sweet and charming sound!

Winifred - 6/10 I see the appeal of this name and nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] would be adorable. I find the ‘[name_m]Fred[/name_m]’ element a little harsh.

Mirabel - 9/10 so so beautiful and elegant!

Thanks everyone, my hunch was right, I think, that [name_f]Marjorie[/name_f] wouldn’t get much love. She came up on the alternatives to [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] thread and I have fallen in love. [name_m]Ah[/name_m] well, I can cope with it being an unpopular love. Also that [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] might be a bit too much for people.

Should probably have prefaced I’m not a huge nickname person but would use Sephy for [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], possibly [name_f]Eva[/name_f] for [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] for [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] (I don’t like [name_u]Freddie[/name_u], which is one thing putting me off).
