Yeah, I’m gonna rate out of 10. Sorry.
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]: 7/10 Alright, but I think it’s kind of bland. Its popularity is definitely a contributing factor.
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]: 3/10 I think [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is a much better alternative. It’s not as common, it’s cute, and I think it’s stronger-sounding. Makes me think of a small girl who, despite her size, holds her ground well.
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]: 6.5/10 Not bad. I prefer it to [name_f]Sophie[/name_f].
[name_f]Ava[/name_f]: 2.5/10 Despite its Irish cousin ([name_f]Aoife[/name_f]) being my favorite name of all time, I’m not at all a fan of this one. Too trendy, I guess. I do like [name_f]Ada[/name_f], though.
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f]: 8.5/10 This is on my list, though a lot of people say it’s too popular nowadays. I fear it might become another ‘three girls in my class have the same name’ name.
[name_f]Mia[/name_f]: 8/10 I used to really like this, but I think my love’s diminished in favor of other names.
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f]: 6.5/10 I actually prefer the full name to the nickname [name_u]Abby[/name_u]. My rating might be a little harsh; it’s an okay name, but it’s a little too common for me. Namesakes include [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_m]Adams[/name_m] (yay) and [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_m]Williams[/name_m] of The Crucible (not so ‘yay’).
[name_f]Emily[/name_f]: 4.5/10 A nice name that suffers from overwhelming popularity. “Oh, your name’s [name_f]Emily[/name_f]? I have a sister named [name_f]Emily[/name_f]! And a couple of friends. And a neighbor. And an aunt. And…”
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]: 7/10 Not bad. Not a big fan of [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] (for a girl or a boy), but I’ve never really liked nicknames in general.
[name_u]Madison[/name_u]: 2/10 I’ve never met a [name_u]Madison[/name_u] who wasn’t mean, bossy, or all-around unpleasant. (Hmm. Maybe this should have been my name…) Three such Maddies come to mind (though only two of them were Madisons.) Needless to say, I don’t like the go-to nickname for this one.
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]: 4/10 Not a fan. Not sure why. I kind of like the look of [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], though.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]: 6.5/10 Similarly to [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], I like it in its full form, but not the nicknames. [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f] is kind of cute, though.
[name_f]Sofia[/name_f]: 6.5/10 I think I prefer the PH spelling. Or maybe this is fresher, because it’s less common. I’m not sure. This is the capital of Bulgaria.
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]: 2/10 Despite having used this for a LEGO character when I was younger, I’ve really don’t like this. It sounds like the name of a woman who’s secretly evil. (I really don’t think that’s because the first four letters are one letter off from ‘evil’.) Apparently I hate every [name_f]Ava[/name_f]/[name_f]Eva[/name_f]/[name_f]Eve[/name_f] name that isn’t [name_f]Aoife[/name_f], which I love.
[name_u]Avery[/name_u]: 6.5/10 Okay, so I don’t hate this one either. But I don’t like it a whole lot. I think it’s more middle name material. This is actually my ex boyfriend’s middle name. I think it works as a boy middle.
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]: 5.5/10 I might like this better if it wasn’t so popular. The -oe ending feels soft and creamy to me, kind of like foamy soap. I do like its meaning—“green shoot”. I like plant names that aren’t necessarily flowers ([name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]).
[name_f]Ella[/name_f]: 5/10 This is princessy and all, but I feel like there are so many names out there that incorporate ‘[name_f]Ella[/name_f]’ beautifully, that this kind of feels short and bland.
[name_f]Grace[/name_f]: 2/10 I don’t know what I have against this name. I guess it feels more like middle name material to me, but even then, I don’t like it as a middle. It’s not like I think the virtue is a good namesake—I just never liked this for some reason.
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f]: 7/10 I think this is a very pretty name (I like that it starts with a V), but I can’t stand the nicknames. I haven’t heard [name_f]Vicky[/name_f] outside of Fairly Oddparents, so I believe the go-to nickname is [name_f]Tori[/name_f]. I think shortening it to [name_f]Tori[/name_f] takes away all the beauty.
[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]: 5/10 I’ve seen this mostly on girls, but I also have met a male [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]. I think it’s kind of bland; there are prettier names out there.
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]: 7/10 Usually I’m not a fan of adding on extra letters to established words (referring to the fact that the color scarlet has one T), but I prefer this spelling to [name_f]Scarlet[/name_f]. I think the name is nice and bold, like the color. I personally wouldn’t use it because I have this weird thing about red names. The only problem is that its popularity might not make it as bold as you’d want.
[name_f]Zoey[/name_f]: 5/10 Not a big fan of the name or this spelling. I would go with [name_f]Zoe[/name_f].
[name_u]Addison[/name_u]: 5.5/10 Better than [name_u]Madison[/name_u], but I still don’t like this that much. It feels trendy and bland at the same time.
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]: 6/10 This isn’t a bad name, but I’ve never been a fan. I feel like it fits into a triad of common flower names: [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], and [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. Of those, I only sort of like [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. Flowers are nice namesakes, but I would use a different one. As you might expect from my comment on [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], I really don’t like the spelling ‘[name_f]Lilly[/name_f]’.
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]: 6-6.5/10 I used to think this was better than [name_f]Lily[/name_f], but now I’m not so sure. I guess it has too many L’s for my taste.
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f]: 6/10 Pretty common. I prefer [name_f]Natalia[/name_f].
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f]: 3/10 Very common and ordinary. I like that it’s a palindrome, though.
[name_f]Aria[/name_f]: 6.8/10 Not a bad name, but its soaring popularity makes me like it less. I think I the [name_u]Arya[/name_u] spelling, but I really don’t like the idea of naming babies after current pop culture icons.
[name_f]Layla[/name_f]: 3/10 I think I have a vendetta against L’s. I don’t like the sound of this one either. It feels to peppy for me.
