Reagan

DH & my family love the name [name]Reagan[/name] for our little girl due in [name]July[/name]. I think the name is okay, but I’m not in love with it. I could see calling a child [name]Reagan[/name] and growing to like the name more. One of my main problems with the name is possible nicknames. I can only think of one, [name]Rea[/name], and I don’t care for it. Her middle name (with whatever name we choose) will be [name]Amelia[/name].

What do you ladies think of the name [name]Reagan[/name]? Any nickname ideas?

Other names I like (but none enough to say “that’s it!”…does that feeling happen?): [name]Hazel[/name] (problem: dog’s name is [name]Hailey[/name] and I sometimes call her [name]Haze[/name]),
[name]Harper[/name] (concerned about major popularity spike)
[name]Lorelei[/name] nn [name]Rory[/name] (DH doesn’t like b/c of [name]Gilmore[/name] Girls. [name]Do[/name] you think it will be hard for some to spell?)
[name]Katherine[/name] (love [name]Kate[/name]…not so much on [name]Kathy[/name] or [name]Katie[/name])
[name]Jewel[/name] (kind of expected because I happen to [name]LOVE[/name] the singer [name]Jewel[/name])
[name]Adele[/name]
[name]Adeline[/name]/[name]Adelaide[/name] (dh & family hate these! so sad!)
[name]Ingrid[/name]
[name]Gabrielle[/name] nn [name]Gabby[/name] (possibly too fussy for my taste)

Any advice is appreciated!!! <3

I despise [name]Reagan[/name], it’s trendy and masculine and reminds me of [name]Ronald[/name] [name]Reagan[/name]. I love the rest of your list, though (except [name]Harper[/name] and [name]Jewel[/name]). [name]Adele[/name] and [name]Ingrid[/name] and [name]Katherine[/name] are gorgeous! If you really like the sound of [name]Reagan[/name], spell it [name]Regan[/name]-- it’s a a legitimate Shakespearan name. Other suggestions:

[name]Isabel[/name]
[name]Greta[/name]
[name]Helena[/name]
[name]Sophie[/name]
[name]Eva[/name]
[name]Ada[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Clara[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Maren[/name]
[name]Vivian[/name]

@irisrose thanks for being honest about [name]Reagan[/name]!

Thanks for your suggestions!!

[name]LOVE[/name]:
[name]Matilda[/name] - is grandmother’s name…but, it’s my dog’s middle name. Yes, i’m crazy like that.
[name]Greta[/name] - great grandmother was [name]Gretchen[/name] [name]Amelia[/name] so I’ve considered [name]Greta[/name]. Unfortunately, DH is not a fan :frowning:

Like:
[name]Daphne[/name] - a city 30 minutes from me :frowning:
[name]Sophie[/name] - DH loves but way too many [name]Sophie[/name]/Sophias for me
[name]Isabel[/name] - mom’s favorite but again, too popular

I’m hoping that I just haven’t seen THE name yet. Maybe one day…before [name]July[/name]

I like the sound of [name]Reagan[/name], but besides thinking of [name]Ronald[/name] [name]Reagan[/name] I also think of [name]Ray[/name]-gun! [name]Even[/name] if you say it [name]Reegan[/name] or whatever : D.

Not thinking of tons of nns here. [name]Rea[/name] if you’re saying it [name]Ree[/name] could be [name]Rae[/name] as well.

I would definitely recommend considering the Shakespearean spelling (she is, however, I believe, one of the not-so-good daughters in Lear, maybe another not-awesome thing).

[name]Do[/name] you like [name]Teagan[/name]? Maybe nn [name]Tea[/name] (like the actress [name]Tea[/name] [name]Leone[/name]?). [name]Keegan[/name], maybe nickname [name]Kay[/name] or Kee. It’s also of note to me that some of the other names you like go together OK (esp [name]Hazel[/name], [name]Jewel[/name] and either [name]Adele[/name] or [name]Adeline[/name]/[name]Adelaide[/name]) but not so much with [name]Reagan[/name]. Maybe [name]Reagan[/name] and [name]Harper[/name].

Does everyone have that moment? I think some do, some don’t. Probably like some women do and don’t when buying a wedding dress! I feel like I’ve felt that way about a name or two I’ve picked out, but if my husband doesn’t like it or it doesn’t suit the child, I’ll change my feelings. I wouldn’t take not having that feeling as a curse. It can be a blessing, allowing for some flexibility.

[name]Hazel[/name] - cute, although it also feels a little animal-y to me, so it’s funny you nickname your dog [name]Haze[/name]! [name]Iris[/name]? [name]Ivy[/name]? [name]Mabel[/name]? [name]Olive[/name]?
[name]Harper[/name] - concern about popularity spike is fair, although it is nice. [name]Helen[/name]?
[name]Lorelei[/name] - this has some major negative associations in [name]German[/name] literature and culture. That may or may not matter to you. I think it also is hard to pronounce and say. I do think it’s pretty though. [name]Laura[/name]-[name]Leigh[/name]? [name]Laurel[/name] with a first name that starts with I? [name]Laurel[/name] also feels similar to [name]Hazel[/name].
[name]Katherine[/name] - a GREAT classic and you can definitely keep her [name]Kate[/name].
[name]Jewel[/name] - nice, and a good match to [name]Hazel[/name] if you’re thinking of more down the road. [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Gemma[/name], [name]Opal[/name]?
[name]Adele[/name] - Also a good match to [name]Jewel[/name] and would be with [name]Hazel[/name] if it didn’t seem a little close. They are both singers, not sure if that would matter to you?
[name]Adeline[/name]/[name]Adelaide[/name] - like these, [name]Adelaide[/name] especially, sorry they dont. [name]Madeline[/name]? [name]Delia[/name]? [name]Adela[/name]?

Good luck!

I’m with Irisrose. I really like the other names on your list, though, especially [name]Katherine[/name], [name]Adele[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Gabrielle[/name], and [name]Adeline[/name]. I think they all work really well with [name]Amelia[/name] as well.
