I need a really redneck-like name for my main character, a 13-yr-old girl. She’s a very smart kid, being raised in a Southern trailer park by her father and uncle (two men very loosely based on the [name]Dixon[/name] brothers from The Walking Dead). I’ve been seriously considering [name]Liberty[/name] (first name) [name]Belle[/name] (middle name). If I do decide to go with this name, I’m planning to have a little story behind her name, where she was born on [name]July[/name] 4th. I just want some thoughts on this name and suggestions for other “hick” names. Thanks!
I think [name]Luanne[/name] sounds pretty redneck. I’m not exactly sure how it’s spelled. Pronounced like loo-[name]ANNE[/name].
A modern 13yo redneck is much more likely to be named [name]Neveah[/name], [name]Krystal[/name] or [name]Jaden[/name] than [name]Luanne[/name] or [name]Darlene[/name].
I think [name]Liberty[/name] works, but maybe a city name for the middle? Like [name]Dakota[/name], [name]Savannah[/name], [name]Louisiana[/name], [name]Arizona[/name]. You can say she was conceived in one of those cities.
[name]Liberty[/name] [name]Belle[/name] was the name of [name]Juno[/name]'s sister in the movie [name]Juno[/name]. That’s all I can think of when I hear that name, although it does sound exceedingly redneck.
I like [name]Liberty[/name], but maybe a different middle name? I like the idea of state/city names. Something like [name]Liberty[/name] [name]Carolina[/name]?
I live about 30 minutes away from the redneck capital of [name]Alabama[/name], and I can tell you right now that you won’t find a single 13-year-old redneck trailer park dweller named [name]Liberty[/name] [name]Belle[/name]. As terribly uninteresting as it is, your character is going to have a name like [name]Lindsey[/name], [name]Ashley[/name], or [name]Brittany[/name]. [name]Ashley[/name] is notoriously redneck in my area, so much so that “Trashley [name]Ashley[/name]” is a term we use to describe the stereotypical redneck teenage girl i.e. a girl who talks in a screechy Southern accent, is obese, has neon streaks in her bleach blonde or Sharpie black hair, wears sweatpants with “[name]ANGEL[/name]” or “CUTIE” across the backside, thinks a bucket of Kentucky [name]Fried[/name] Chicken and a few zebra cakes is a good meal, has the IQ of a loaf of bread, is exactly how you imagine [name]Honey[/name] Boo Boo as a teenager, etc.
Pick anything from the top 25 girls’ names of the 90s, mess with the spelling a bit, and you’ll be set. Also, if she has a brother, his name is [name]Justin[/name].
I agree with southern.maple the simpler the name the more redneck you are going to find. I live in SC and [name]Jessica[/name], [name]Ashley[/name], and even [name]Samantha[/name] remind me more of the stereotypical “redneck”. I would suggest [name]Samantha[/name] because she can be transformed and the name can change as well [name]Sam[/name], [name]Samantha[/name], [name]Sammie[/name], etc…
Also if you do the city/ state thing it will be a lot like Because of [name]Winn[/name] [name]Dixie[/name] and a few other movies its beginning to get cliche.
[name]Liberty[/name] is great i agree naming her for the state or city she was conceived in or a word like [name]Bliss[/name] hope or [name]Faith[/name].
You’ve just described the majority of girls at my high school. Considering many of them describe themselves as redneck, I think this is spot on.
The area of Oregon in which I live is very “hick” and I would never, ever meet a girl named [name]Liberty[/name] [name]Belle[/name], even if her parents were hard core republicans. Stick with [name]Kaitlyn[/name] and its varients, [name]Ashley[/name], [name]Jessica[/name], [name]Samantha[/name], ect.
[name]Krystal[/name], [name]Leanne[/name], [name]Dianna[/name], [name]Arlene[/name], [name]Tammi[/name]-[name]Lynne[/name], [name]Tamsin[/name], [name]Carly[/name], [name]Jean[/name], [name]Joan[/name], [name]Jenny[/name], [name]Cali[/name], [name]Dakota[/name], [name]Ashley[/name], [name]Lindsay[/name], [name]Brittany[/name], [name]Amanda[/name], [name]Lena[/name], [name]Linda[/name], [name]Cassidy[/name], [name]Dorothy[/name], [name]Kristen[/name], [name]Savannah[/name], [name]Emily[/name], [name]Katie[/name]-[name]Lynne[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Joanna[/name], [name]Joanne[/name], [name]Gerri[/name], [name]Cami[/name], [name]Mary[/name], [name]Bonnie[/name], [name]Connie[/name], [name]Lorraine[/name], [name]Lori[/name], [name]Tori[/name], [name]Jane[/name], [name]Mikayla[/name], [name]Winnie[/name], [name]Angelica[/name], [name]Evangeline[/name], [name]Tess[/name], [name]Riley[/name]. These are just the ones of the top of my head I like [name]Liberty[/name], but [name]Liberty[/name] [name]Belle[/name] sounds too city-ish to me. Good luck!
