Reed or Reid?

[name]Hi[/name] Berries!

I love [name]Reed[/name]/[name]Reid[/name], but I can’t decide on which spelling. What do you think and why? Which do you prefer?

I think of [name]Reed[/name] as more of a nature name. I would think a boy named [name]Reed[/name] would be quiet, smart, and kind. [name]Reid[/name] seems more yupster. I could see [name]Reid[/name] going to an all-boys prep school and kind of being a prankster with a twinkle in his eye. He would be the charismatic guy who could charm his way out of trouble. I like both names and would decide based on image and sibling names if that applies.

It depends on what style you’re looking for in a name. [name]Reed[/name] is a nature name and more casual and laidback. [name]Reid[/name] is a surname with a classy elegance but it’s more formal in tone. And a lot depends on the other names too! I prefer [name]Reid[/name] spelling because [name]Reed[/name] reminds me of the word “reedy” (thin or fragile in appearance) so I think [name]Reid[/name] has a “stronger” look to it.

[name]Reid[/name] is on my list too, love it! I chose [name]Reid[/name] because it seems a bit more preppy/sophisticated. I would choose [name]Reed[/name] if I was going for more of a nature feel like the other berries said. Honestly you can’t go wrong either way!

I find it really funny you guys says it’s a “preppy” name – I got to a prestigious prep school where there are MANY boys named [name]Reed[/name]/[name]Reid[/name]. I think the [name]Reid[/name] spelling may be more common though! The [name]Reid[/name] that lives down the street is like you said…a troublemaker who gets out of things using his charisma. And I know a [name]Reed[/name] at school is quiet and casual, like you said. So funny!

I prefer it spelt [name]Reed[/name] for a boy and [name]Reid[/name] for a girl

It’s been on my list forever!

I chose [name]Reid[/name] because I like it better asthetically, although I like the meaning of [name]Reed[/name] better, especially with a botanist husband.

I love both [name]Reed[/name] and [name]Reid[/name]. They are both great.

My dad’s middle name is Rhead which is a family tradition to pass down as a middle name of first born son to first born son.

Unfortunately that means my brother get the name and I can’t have it, Sigh.

I prefer [name]Reid[/name]. It just looks more namely to me.

I much prefer [name]Reed[/name]. I am probably biased, though, since I went to [name]Reed[/name] College, in [name]Portland[/name], OR for my undergrad degree. I really love it as a name - and actually knew a guy named [name]Reed[/name] when I was in college there!

Def. [name]Reed[/name]. Though I am biased as it is my wonderful husband’s name  [name]Reid[/name] just doesn’t look correct to my eye. Almost like it’s trying to hard to look cool.

I prefer [name]Reid[/name] - it’s much more no-nonsense to me, I guess.

I also went to [name]Reed[/name] and knew two kids named [name]Reed[/name] (or maybe [name]Reid[/name], not sure) while there. So if you name your kid this, start saving your pennies! (Or maybe he will just want to play the oboe) Generally, I agree with other posters’ impressions of the two different spellings. [name]Both[/name] seem intelligent, but because of my association with the college, [name]Reed[/name] seems a little more studious and [name]Reid[/name] a bit more playful.

[name]Reid[/name] just seems more like a name to me than [name]Reed[/name] does. Plus, I think that [name]Reid[/name] is more visually interesting/appealing.

[name]Reade[/name] is a family name on my husband’s side. We really like the idea of using it, but worry that it looks “misspelled”. Middle it is, then.

As for [name]Reed[/name] and [name]Reid[/name], I honestly think it’s six of one, half a dozen of the other (and the posts seem to reflect this). If you’re looking for different, what about Wrede?

I prefer [name_u]Reid[/name_u]. I’ve never met anyone who’s name is [name_u]Reed[/name_u]. I had a crush on a guy named [name_u]Reid[/name_u]. He was really cute and I would definitely like to use [name_u]Reid[/name_u] over [name_u]Reed[/name_u].

I prefer [name_u]Reid[/name_u]. More “name” and less “word” to me.

I personally prefer [name_u]Reid[/name_u]. It just looks more attractive to me but if you wanted a more nature-y vibe then [name_u]Reed[/name_u] seems like a better choice.

I don’t think there’s a difference really. [name_m]Just[/name_m] pick the one that looks better to you. I think [name_u]Reid[/name_u] looks better.

I prefer [name_u]Reid[/name_u]. I think it looks more like a name.
