Registering

Hello ladies!

[name_m]Just[/name_m] a few questions about registering. I am 24 weeks today, due march 10th with our first baby! A little boy, [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_u]Michael[/name_u].

My mom is planning a shower for [name_u]January[/name_u] 25th. We will be moving probably on or right around Dec 31st. So the month between moving and the shower will be busy with unpacking, getting settled, plus a few weekends are taken up already too! My mom also wants the invitations out by the end of [name_u]December[/name_u], and the invitations will say where we are registered at. ANYWAYS… I’m rambling now… But my question. When do you think is a good time to register? Everyone says to wait as long as possible so that you have something to look forward to. But honestly I am thinking that id rather not register anytime between thanksgiving and [name_u]Christmas[/name_u], when stores will be insane! Which leaves us with the option of doing it next weekend. Does that seem silly or too early?

Also, we were just thinking of doing Target and babies r us. Those seem like pretty standard places. Any suggestions or experience with this?

Thanks

I don’t think it’s too early at all! If I remember correctly, we registered a week or two after our 20 week ultrasound. You can always add some things in early [name_u]January[/name_u] if you have more time to research, but I’d have at least a small selection of gifts on the registry when invitations go out for shower guests who go shopping right away.

We did Babies R Us and [name_m]Land[/name_m] of Nod. I have friends who loved Buy Buy [name_u]Baby[/name_u] too if you have one nearby…lots of coupons. The only problem I’ve had with Target registries is how fast inventory turns over…I found I had to really keep an eye out to make sure things were still available online or in stores! Definitely a winner for prices though.

Congratulations.

I dont think its too early!

and do target! Such cute stuff for such great prices! People will be more likely to buy more if things are reasonably priced!

Good luck! and [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] is a lovely name!

Thanks ladies! now I feel a little bit better about doing it this weekend! Good tip about keeping my eye on things at target as well.

I have done some research and, having been a nanny, I sort of know which products i like. But does anyone have a specific item (other than the basics) that has been a lifesaver? Something you might not have thought to register for?

Also, should clothes we like go on registry too, to give people an idea of our style? Or do you generally leave clothing out of the picture?

I registered pretty late - I think some time in late [name_u]March[/name_u], and my shower was in [name_f]April[/name_f]. But my shower was a surprise, plus I couldn’t drive for a good portion of early/mid pregnancy due to fainting spells. So I don’t think it’s unreasonable to register now.

I only registered at Babies R Us…but I’m not very picky about things like clothes, blankets, etc…and don’t mind getting surprise gifts. If you really want more specific items, registering at multiple places might give people more of a chance to choose exactly what you want. My aunt and grandma bought almost everything on my registry, though, and I got a lot of gifts that weren’t on there.

I registered for some clothes, because I wanted them!

One thing I didn’t register for which we needed to run out and get were the swaddlers things, the little baby straightjackets. The blankets just didn’t stay on my squirmy daughter, and she woke up every 20 minutes unless she was swaddled! I also didn’t want a bassinet, and since the crib is in our room, I thought it would be fine…but ended up wanting her closer to the bed, so ran out and got one of those, too.

I registered for a boppy pillow and diaper genie (At my mother’s insistence) and both were a huge waste [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

I would just register now. You can always fiddle with it later if you have the time & energy to.

I didn’t register for any clothes with my first. You will get TONS of clothes from people, and you won’t like half of them, and that’s just life. [name_m]Just[/name_m] hope everyone gives you gift receipts. If there are a few really specific clothes you’d love, you can put them on, but it’s smarter to register for useful things instead like bottles, bath stuff, receiving blankets & burp cloths… stuff like that. Then hopefully people will buy you THOSE things & you will be able to go buy the clothes you want to buy later.

I didn’t register for clothes either…and still got sooo many. I’d wait and just fill in the gaps later. People will buy clothes and toys regardless of whats on your registry. We did love the baby sleep gowns though…so easy for nighttime diaper changes.

My favorites:
[name_u]Aden[/name_u] and [name_f]Anais[/name_f] swaddle blankets
[name_m]Fisher[/name_m] price kick n play piano (hands down, favorite toy)
Snuggabunny rock n play (We still use for naps sometimes, nice set-down spot for living room)

Things you might forget:
White noise machine
Travel changer pad
[name_u]Baby[/name_u] first aid kit (thermometer, baby tylenol, nosefrida, etc…)

I agree also people who buy not from the registry probably won’t look at it to get a feel for your style they might not view the registry at all. And the people who do stick to the registry you’ll want them to buy more practical stuff instead of more cute outfits. I would put basics like white onesies on the registry.
