We’re not sure what spelling to use for our son’s name. Here’s how we feel about them right now:
[name_u]Reid[/name_u] - I really like this spelling and it seems based on my online research that overall people prefer this spelling too. It is a little bit more popular than [name_u]Reed[/name_u] based on the SS website (1364 total boys vs. 1024 total boys). If people are going to assume this spelling first and they like it more, that makes me prefer this spelling more. Would this be an easier spelling for people?
[name_u]Reed[/name_u] - [name_f]My[/name_f] husband prefers this one because he’s more familiar with it and he likes the nature connection. I’m a little concerned about some people not liking it because it may make them think of an instrument or a plant. Also, there is an “i” in the second letter of our last name. I’m wondering if [name_u]Reed[/name_u] would look better with our last name because then we wouldn’t have an “i” in the first and last name as we would with [name_u]Reid[/name_u]. I’m not sure how much that matters. We also think [name_u]Reed[/name_u] may look better with our daughter’s name, [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. [name_m]Both[/name_m] names would have a double letter in the middle. However, if we had another child I’m sure we wouldn’t find another name with a double letter in the middle and I wouldn’t want that child to feel left out.
I definitely prefer [name_u]Reid[/name_u], [name_u]Reed[/name_u] makes me think of the plant. But it comes down to personal taste really. If you think [name_u]Reed[/name_u] looks better than [name_u]Reid[/name_u], than go for it
[name_m]How[/name_m] do you automatically spell it when your not thinking about it? That’s how I decided which spelling of [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] I preferred- both my husband and I automatically spelt it with two “t’s” even though it’s not the most common spelling
I prefer [name_u]Reed[/name_u] and I like the double letter connection with [name_f]Emma[/name_f] as well as the nature connection! There are plenty of names with double letters in the middle if you did end up using [name_u]Reed[/name_u]!
It wouldn’t have to be one of these names but if you did decide to use [name_u]Reed[/name_u] I feel like there are plenty of options out there and that you’d be able to find another name with a double letter in the middle that suits you
I prefer [name_u]Reid[/name_u]. It seems more like a name and less like a random word. I feel the same way about [name_u]Sky[/name_u] vs [name_u]Skye[/name_u].
Looking down at my signature, I notice that I have multiple word names in there, so I may be somewhat confused on this subject, lol.
I prefer [name_u]Reid[/name_u]. When I thought about you having another child and him/her not having a name without the double letter in the middle, I automatically thought that it shouldn’t be an option
I prefer the look of [name_u]Reid[/name_u]. But either way is fine. I wouldn’t assume either was the spelling a person used, as I’ve never met any Reids/Reeds. I’d just ask the person which spelling they used. Use the one you like best!
[name_u]Reed[/name_u]. Feels more classic and less surnamey. I also love the nature connection as I come from a place with a lot of marsh grass and reeds.
I have a son named [name_u]Reid[/name_u] and we had a similar concern with our last name. I liked both [name_u]Reid[/name_u] and [name_u]Reed[/name_u], but our last name has a double E in it (and three Es all together), so we though we should go with [name_u]Reid[/name_u] to eliminate one more E from his name. If not for that, I would have had a harder time deciding between the two spellings.
I love how [name_u]Reed[/name_u] and [name_f]Emma[/name_f] look together. I wouldn’t be too concerned about another child not having the double middle letters, though. Because one is double vowels and one is double consonants, I don’t feel like it looks glaringly obvious. Good luck!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Reed[/name_u]–the nature connection, the look of it. I think you could very well find another name, if need be, that fit in, that doesn’t necessarily have to have double letters. I think [name_u]Reed[/name_u] and [name_f]Emma[/name_f] looks better than [name_u]Reid[/name_u] and [name_f]Emma[/name_f], personally. But they both look great.
