Remember?

What do you think of [name]Remember[/name] as a word name?
It has history, but I find it modern and moving.
Nicknames could be [name]Remy[/name], [name]Ember[/name], Emby, [name]Berry[/name] and Reby/[name]Rebel[/name] (a bit of a stretch).

As just a name it’s one of my favorites, but on an actual person it might be too much name, if you know what I mean. I think I prefer the similar-sounding ember, as it’s shorter, but of course you lose all the meaning of [name]Remember[/name] in that case. Not sure, really.

I like it a lot. I have a thing for weird virtue names that only pilgrims would have used. I also love Thankful and Humility.

I read it in a story once, and I just thought it was so cool on her, but I think it could be interesting on a real girl. I think it’d be hard to pull off, though. My favorite nn for it is [name]Emmy[/name].

I love the nns [name]Remi[/name], [name]Emmy[/name], and [name]Berry[/name], but it’s really out there.

I think she’d get a ton of 'Hey you must [name]Remember[/name]…" or “What, you don’t remember?” jokes. Especially when called on in class.

I don’t care for it. It’s sort of cool, but it’s too much for in real life. There are the “Can’t you remember” jokes, and what if she has a bad memory? [name]Emmy[/name] is the best nickname for it.

Pilgrim/Puritan names are a guilty pleasure for me, so I really like [name]Remember[/name]. I’m not sure how well it would work today. Is there a story behind it for you?

Thanks for all the replies, everyone!
And I cannot believe I forget [name]Emmy[/name] as a nn! [name]Add[/name] [name]Em[/name] and [name]Emma[/name] in the mix, too!

If I met a person named [name]Remember[/name], I would be tempted to make a lot of comments about “the Alamooooo.” It seems like it would be pretty awkward as a name, because it sounds like a command.

If you like the meaning, how about the name [name]Rosemary[/name]? “There’s rosemary, that’s for remembrance…”

I would hate to go through life with the name [name]Remember[/name]. It’s in much too common usage as a word.

I like it. I like the nickname Mem. Another name suggestion would be Memory. I once saw the name Memory [name]Jo[/name] on a very old tombstone.

This isn’t an actual name consideration, just a thought. Thanks for you opinions!

Thanks for your opinions, everyone!

I imagine a lifetime of hearing “hey [name]Remember[/name], remember when?” , “[name]Remember[/name] remembers ask her” or “we were just remembering when [name]Remember[/name] used to get her name confused with the word remember” would get old pretty quick but I do think the word sounds nice, it’s just too common of a word to work [name]IMO[/name] :frowning:

I agree with a pp who said it seems more like a command than a name.
I prefer [name]Reverie[/name], although I am not brave enough to use it.

It’s a bit of a stretch, but I really like the sounds of it- it’s a lovely name. I read a book when I was little, where the main character was named [name]Remember[/name] (and her mn was [name]Patience[/name]) and she was called Mem, but I think [name]Emmy[/name], [name]Em[/name], [name]Remy[/name], would all be cute nns. Still, [name]Remember[/name] might be a bit much, and might lead to a lot of teasing.
