Remy, Brody, Bryson, Rufus, Dexter????

My husband and I thought we had a name figured out for our 2nd boy coming next month but we have changed our minds and now can’t decide. We like different but not too different. Something that isn’t really used but is still a name people know.
We want to use a family name as the middle name and the 2 we are considering are [name]Fredrick[/name] and Cony.
Our son’s name is [name]Archer[/name] [name]Samuel[/name].
The names we are thinking about are

[name]Remy[/name]
[name]Brody[/name]
[name]Bryson[/name]
[name]Rufus[/name]
[name]Dexter[/name]

[name]Remy[/name]: Not such a fan of, reminds me of the cognac [name]Remy[/name] [name]Martin[/name]
[name]Brody[/name]: It has an alright sound to it, but I’m not a fan of the meaning.
[name]Bryson[/name]: These …son names seem to be getting really popular recently, but to me the meaning is important, and unless there’s a [name]Bryce[/name] some where in the family history, naming a kid something that means '[name]Bryce[/name]‘s son’ seems strange to me
[name]Rufus[/name]: I like this name quite a bit and am surprised it isn’t more popular. I have read an article or two that said this is on it’s way to making a comeback, becoming gradually well used among ‘hip’ parents. But I like it. However, it does mean “red-head” by definition, so I’d personally only use it if the kid had red hair.
[name]Dexter[/name]: I quite like this name, it has a cool feel to it. But the association to the HBO tv series serial killer is really strong. Maybe that’s an association that will fade away once the kids off to middle school, but it’s definitely a strong association these days. Otherwise, it’s a nice name.

[name]Rufus[/name]! [name]Love[/name] the name and I think it is a great fit with archer.

[name]Remy[/name] - I know a little girl with the name.
[name]Brody[/name] - cute but i don’t think it goes that well with archer
[name]Bryson[/name] - prefer bryce
[name]Dexter[/name] - TV murderer sorry!

Best of luck

With [name]Archer[/name], I would choose…

1 [name]Remy[/name] - Different style to [name]Archer[/name] but I think this French name would be complementary.
2 [name]Rufus[/name] - A strong ancient name for [name]Archer[/name]'s sibling.
3 [name]Dexter[/name] - ends the same as [name]Archer[/name] so it’s not ideal.

The trendy [name]Brody[/name] and [name]Bryson[/name] just can’t compare to the distinguised [name]Archer[/name].

I absolutely love [name]Brody[/name] and [name]Rufus[/name]! I think [name]Archer[/name] and [name]Rufus[/name] work better, but I don’t think [name]Brody[/name] DOESN’T work, and I think [name]Brody[/name] and [name]Archer[/name] are pretty cute together. Maybe [name]Brody[/name] [name]Rufus[/name] or [name]Rufus[/name] [name]Brody[/name]?

I have a major crush on [name]Remy[/name] for a boy. So cute. It’s not a perfect match with [name]Archer[/name], as they are different styles, but it isn’t too far off.

I adore [name]Rufus[/name]. It sounds the best with your two middle names and with [name]Archer[/name]. I see what the previous poster said about only using it if your son has red hair, but I’d still use it! It’s super adorable and meets all your criteria.

I think [name]Remy[/name] is too unisex for my taste. A kid back in college was named [name]Brody[/name] and everyone called him “chodey” so I can’t say I like that one… [name]Bryson[/name] is a bit too trendy with the -son ending. [name]Dexter[/name] has a strong connection to the TV show “[name]Dexter[/name]”

I would recommend [name]Byron[/name]. It has the same feel as [name]Bryson[/name], just a little cooler.

I like:

  1. [name]Archer[/name] & [name]Remy[/name]
  2. [name]Archer[/name] & [name]Rufus[/name]

Though I love your pick of names, [name]Dexter[/name] is my favourite with [name]Archer[/name]!! They are similar in sound yet very different at the same time, [name]Arch[/name] and [name]Dex[/name] make such a fun pair, I can totally imagine them hosting a TV Show or something.
I love [name]Dexter[/name], it is such a cool name.
My other one I like is [name]Remy[/name], though [name]Archer[/name] and [name]Remy[/name] don’t flow quite as nicely in my opinion, it is still a very sweet name and I hope its comeback is quiet because I love it!
[name]One[/name] other name that comes to mind is [name]Rudy[/name], similar to both [name]Remy[/name] and [name]Rufus[/name]

Good luck!
PS. I adore the name [name]Archer[/name] [name]Samuel[/name], so good!

[name]Remy[/name]- NMS, this name doesn’t seem like a name to me.
[name]Brody[/name]- I love this name
[name]Bryson[/name]-I like this
[name]Rufus[/name] and [name]Dexter[/name]- My favorites from your list

I like [name]Brody[/name] and [name]Bryson[/name]. [name]Rufus[/name] is just…terrible. Sorry. Dont get the popularity on this site.

  1. [name]Remy[/name] [name]Frederick[/name]
  2. [name]Dexter[/name] Cony
  3. [name]Brody[/name] [name]Frederick[/name]

Would not use [name]Rufus[/name] (I recently told another poster, imo, I think it’s appropriate only for Irish Setters) nor [name]Bryson[/name] (despite liking [name]Bill[/name] [name]Bryson[/name]'s books) without it being a family name. Definitely seconding the recommendation of [name]Byron[/name]! What a wonderful hidden gem.

I don’t think the [name]Dexter[/name] TV show is an enormous deal. I don’t watch it, and most of the other 300 million people in this country (not to mention others) don’t either, going by the Neilsen numbers.

[name]Rufus[/name] works so well with [name]Archer[/name].

While I like [name]Dexter[/name], I’m not sure how two -er endings sound together.

[name]Bryson[/name] isn’t even in the same class as your other options. It’s too trendy… and reminds me of 1980s [name]Brian[/name]. Also, I think [name]Brycen[/name] is the more common spelling?

I like [name]Dexter[/name] and didn’t really think of the TV show. I believe it’s in it’s 8th season, so it has only a few more years left on the air anyway. I really like the nn [name]Dex[/name]. The sound of [name]Brody[/name]/[name]Bryson[/name] both sound really popular too me. There are a lot of [name]Brady[/name]'s/[name]Bryce[/name]'s/[name]Bryan[/name]'s around.

I like [name]Remy[/name]. It has an distinctive sound and lots of personality. It reminds me of [name]Remy[/name] LeBeau/Gambit from the X-Men! Which I love! [name]Remy[/name] [name]Fredrick[/name] sounds handsome! This is actually my favorite on your list!

I don’t care for [name]Rufus[/name].

I like [name]Remy[/name] the best…next would be [name]Rufus[/name].

The only one I like is [name]Brody[/name]. [name]Remy[/name] and [name]Dexter[/name] are too associated with TV and movies. (The TV show called [name]Dexter[/name], the cartoon called [name]Dexter[/name]'s Laboratory, and the main character in the movie called Ratatouille is a rat named [name]Remy[/name].) [name]Bryson[/name] is okay, and [name]Rufus[/name]… No offense, but I really hate this name. When I hear it, I think of a clumsy, not-very-smart hillbilly.

[name]Dexter[/name] is my favorite of the bunch. Not really into the others.

[name]Remy[/name]: I think of the gun, [name]Remington[/name]. It also sounds nick name-ish to me; I would expect there to be a longer full name for it (but [name]Remington[/name] isn’t my style).
[name]Brody[/name]- i knew a handsome [name]Brody[/name] but he was a little sullen in nature. I still think it’s a handsome, southern sounding (this is a compliment i think!) name and is my second choice of yours.
[name]Bryson[/name]- it’s nice, and i do prefer it over simply [name]Bryce[/name], but that’d make a nice nickname. The more I think of this name the more I like it. Good for a little boy, teen, young or old man.
[name]Rufus[/name]- not my style… but mainly for personal reasons (we have lots of dogs and it’d be too easy to make that a joke, and also I immediately nickname everything, and [name]Rufus[/name] would become Rufie, which is too close to the drug!!)
[name]Dexter[/name]- my first choice. I love love [name]Dexter[/name]. Sure there’s the tv show, but it’s not like that character is real, and how much longer will the show go on for, a few years (not sure, I’m a few seasons behind in watching it)? Your kid will outlast and outshine a tv show. Plus the nickname [name]Dex[/name] is very cool. I love it.

I don’t like [name]Rufus[/name], [name]Brody[/name], or [name]Bryson[/name]

I like [name]Remy[/name]. And I like [name]Dexter[/name] the best, but maybe not with [name]Archer[/name] due to the -er endings. Unless you would call either one by a nickname.
