Rename me a twin

Rewriting an old story, and one of the names really doesn’t fit. I’ve got teenage twin girls, [name_f]Mandy[/name_f] ([name_f]Amanda[/name_f], but goes exclusively by her nickname) and [name_u]Stacey[/name_u] [name_m]Stevenson[/name_m], but I don’t like [name_u]Stacey[/name_u]'s name for her, it sounds too cartoonish with the alliterative St- sounds. They’ve got an older sister, [name_f]Leanne[/name_f], and a younger brother, [name_m]George[/name_m], and the parents are [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f] and [name_m]Dave[/name_m] (again, go exclusively by their nicknames).

Thinking of something like [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] ([name_u]Jess[/name_u]), [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] or [name_f]Katie[/name_f], but I don’t want anything too matchy - no A or M names really.

The story is set in the 2000s, so she’s born in the late 80s/early 90s in [name_u]London[/name_u], UK. She’s a feisty character who gets into trouble a bit at school, gets into fights and that but ultimately has good intentions and is fiercely protective of those she’s close to. Her parents are police officers and she’s the dominant twin over her quieter, less fiery-tempered sister.

[name_f]Jessica[/name_f] nn [name_u]Jess[/name_u] seems to fit the bill quite well, actually.

Yeah that one was the one I was most leaning to, not sure if [name_u]Jess[/name_u] [name_m]Stevenson[/name_m] is a bit of a mouthful but then again she’ll mostly be referred to just as [name_u]Jess[/name_u] or if her surname gets used it’ll probably be next to [name_f]Jessica[/name_f].

[name_f]Brittany[/name_f] seems to fit the age range of the character and I think [name_u]Britt[/name_u] [name_m]Stevenson[/name_m] sounds good.
[name_u]Britt[/name_u] is a bit spunky and “feisty” [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
I could see [name_u]Britt[/name_u] and [name_f]Mandy[/name_f] being twins!

Only problem is that [name_f]Brittany[/name_f] never got popular in the UK, it’s a very American name - it peaked at #101 over here in 1999 when [name_f]Britney[/name_f] Spears (#148) came onto the radar in a dramatic rise and fall situation. [name_f]Amanda[/name_f], on the other hand, was #49 in 1984 and though declined towards the start of the 90s is much more commonly heard - I still hear the name [name_f]Mandy[/name_f] every now and again, though it was more popular in the 70s (#11 in 1974). [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] and [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] seem to cross over in the mid 1980s - [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] falling as [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] rising but still close enough to be used together. I agree that [name_u]Britt[/name_u] [name_m]Stevenson[/name_m] works as a name, but not for this character.

I like [name_u]Jess[/name_u]. I don’t think you would use [name_u]Jessie[/name_u] because I feel like using [name_u]Jess[/name_u] makes the character’s personality stronger. I’m not sure if that’s what you’re trying to achieve, but if it is, [name_f]Katie[/name_f] wouldn’t work because it seems equal to [name_f]Mandy[/name_f] personality wise. What about [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f]?

Maybe [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] nn [name_f]Jen[/name_f], [name_f]Jenna[/name_f], or [name_f]Jenny[/name_f]? That’s what I think of when I think of popular 80s names. Or was that 70s? I can’t remember. Anywho. I think it captures the [name_u]Jess[/name_u] image nicely without being as much of a slur as [name_u]Jess[/name_u] [name_m]Stevenson[/name_m].

I think the name [name_u]Stacey[/name_u] fits the character well, have you considered changing the last name? Not sure how much that would affect things.
whitefeather01 suggested [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f], and I think [name_f]Tiff[/name_f] as a nn suits the character too.
Out of the 3 alternatives you gave I think I like [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] the best.

[name_u]Jess[/name_u] all the way!

I also think [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] is the best given it’s popularity in the late 80s/early 90s and the rest of the family names. [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] and [name_f]Amanda[/name_f] are like classic late 80s/early 90s twins.

There’s also [name_f]Nicole[/name_f] (nn [name_u]Nikki[/name_u]/[name_u]Nicky[/name_u]), [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] (could be nn [name_u]Shelly[/name_u]), [name_f]Rachel[/name_f], [name_f]Christina[/name_f] ([name_f]Chrissy[/name_f] or [name_u]Chris[/name_u]), [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] ([name_f]Becky[/name_f]), [name_f]Danielle[/name_f], [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] ([name_u]Sammy[/name_u] or [name_u]Sam[/name_u]), [name_u]Lisa[/name_u].
