Renaming Auden and Lucy

[name]Hi[/name] there! So I’m beginning a new screenplay, and I need to rename two of my main characters, both 16 year old girls. Any help would be much appreciated!

[name]AUDEN[/name] – this is for a character who’s always been the perfect child, and she needs to break free. She’s pretty, straight-A student, etc., but perhaps a little aloof? I love how [name]Auden[/name] is at once hard and feminine, but its poetic roots give it a little bit of that aloof feeling; at the same time, it’s still sleek, modern and stylish. Unfortunately, it’s also the name of the protagonist of a highly anticipated teen novel, so I’ve been advised I’d be better off changing it. Any ideas for good substitutions? I’m at a loss! ([name]Arden[/name] and [name]Autumn[/name] just aren’t cutting it!)

[name]LUCY[/name] – This is more of a placeholder name until I (or you!) can think of a better one. The character is sweet and funny, but not the prettiest girl, maybe a bit overweight. She’s got a great heart, but lacks confidence. She’s staunchly loyal, the kind of girl you’d love to have as your friend. To me, [name]Lucy[/name] feels right for many of these qualities, but it’s also a bit generic. I’d love to find a more off-beat name that accomplishes these same goals.

Any ideas you folks have would be VERY much appreciated! Thank you so much!!

[name]Arden[/name] IS what I thought of right away. I’ve always loved it and sort of could give that feeling. What about [name]Blake[/name], [name]Jane[/name], [name]Kris[/name], [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Bronte[/name], [name]Kat[/name], [name]Kit[/name], [name]Logan[/name], [name]Kay[/name], [name]Spencer[/name], [name]Sam[/name], [name]Dana[/name]?

The second character sounds like me, so I offer my name, [name]Stephanie[/name] nn [name]Steph[/name]. Haha, too old, I know. [name]How[/name] about [name]Ivy[/name]? That’s the name I would give myself if I were choosing, and I think it fits this character. Or… [name]Livvy[/name]/Livi, [name]Kitty[/name], [name]Gladys[/name], [name]Gemma[/name], [name]Katy[/name], [name]Annie[/name], [name]Susie[/name], [name]Keri[/name], [name]Jenny[/name]?

Sorry if these are all way off base, I’m just giving you my braindump!

I am also in the middle of a screen play. My character’s are [name]Aspen[/name] and [name]Lydia[/name]. I thought it was crazy how similar our name choices were! [name]Aspen[/name]'s real name is [name]Milly[/name], but she hates it. So she is constantly changing her name (she’s a waitress and she’s constantly trying out new nametags). I actually started my screen play years ago and haven’t really made progress. I came up with [name]Aspen[/name] before I had ever even heard of it as a name and now its seeming to be a bit more used than I would like.

ANYWHOO…maybe some of these names will work for you.

Instead of [name]Auden[/name]:
[name]Vivienne[/name] (though maybe too “Pretty Woman”)
[name]Thalia[/name] (I think this is my favorite idea for [name]Auden[/name]'s replacement!)

Instead of [name]Lucy[/name]:

Sorry, I had mine written up before mermuse posted so there is duplicates

Names to replace [name]Auden[/name]… “perfect, pretty, smart, aloof”

[name]Alexa[/name] / [name]Alexis[/name]

Names to replace [name]Lucy[/name]… “friendly, great heart, sweet, lacks confidence, a bit overweight”

[name]Grace[/name] / [name]Gracie[/name] / [name]Gracie[/name] [name]Mae[/name]

[name]Hope[/name] I could help!

You guys are terrific! This is super helpful; please keep them coming!

One thing to mention – [name]Lucy[/name]'s twin brother is named [name]Rick[/name], so whatever name I go with for her will have to match that. Actually, I love [name]Stephanie[/name], that might be a winner. Also [name]Livvy[/name], [name]Louisa[/name] and [name]Lou[/name]. Great suggestions!

I like [name]Aspen[/name] a lot too, especially for your waitress character, who sounds awesome. So far my fav suggestions for [name]Auden[/name] are probably [name]Annika[/name] and [name]Spencer[/name], and I’ve been thinking about [name]Marin[/name], too.

So lovely that there are people out there who are as obsessed about finding the perfect names as I am. Thanks for your generosity!

Instead of [name]Auden[/name] maybe:

Instead of [name]Lucy[/name] maybe:

For [name]Auden[/name], I immediately thought of [name]Afton[/name].

For [name]Lucy[/name], I like the -y ending–it feels friendly! Here are some others (sorry if there are repeats)
[name]Winnie[/name] (maybe too Wonder Years?)
