Rhodes?

What do you think of the name [name_u]Rhodes[/name_u]?

I know a lot of people like it for its cool sound, but to me it’s an odd choice if you have no connection to the island. But I feel that way about (almost) all place names!

Ooh sorry if this is parade-raining but all I hear is the name of the horrid colonial politician [name_u]Cecil[/name_u] [name_u]Rhodes[/name_u] whose legacy is still causing issues in the U.K. today. The island has a different etymology so if it was in honour of the island I’d understand it more, but otherwise I just can’t get behind it, sorry!!

I just think of the plural noun, roads, and also the state of [name_f]Rhode[/name_f] [name_u]Island[/name_u].

I think it is beautiful. It does have some associations, so if they bother you that is a [name_u]Rhodes[/name_u] block.

I know there are two sides to it but I’m all for [name_u]Rhodes[/name_u]! I love it so much it’s short, sharp, cool and stylish but at the same time feels fresh and tender. It’s one of my top names for boy. [name_f]My[/name_f] only connection is [name_u]Rhodes[/name_u] island which doesn’t bother me. I would use it myself my concern is that it will be trendy.

I really like [name_u]Rhodes[/name_u]! I’m not big on one syllable names generally, but there are a few boys’ names that sneak past that rule! I don’t see a strong connection between the name and the island, the state of [name_f]Rhode[/name_f] [name_u]Island[/name_u], or roads. If place names like [name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u], [name_u]Paris[/name_u], [name_u]River[/name_u], etc work- why not [name_u]Rhodes[/name_u]!

I immediately thought of [name_u]Rhodes[/name_u] scholar. Not a bad association!

It fits in sound-wise with other popular boy names: [name_u]Miles[/name_u] and [name_u]James[/name_u].

It’s neat & unique, and reminds me of the place name when I see it written down.

However, if I were to just hear it spoken aloud, I’d most likely hear it as “roads”.

I really like it, my only concern about using it would be that it might get misheard as [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (they’re quite hard to discern in my accent). I think it has a nice sound and I really like the meaning “where roses grow”.

It is not really my style but it’s nice for someone else.

We have [name_u]Rhodes[/name_u] picked as our second boy’s name, should we ever had one. It gives me a western feel and feel somewhat nature like to me. I don’t picture highways, I picture dirt roads beside meadows, truck tire marks, worn in boots. It would be partly to honou my husband’s mother who was born in [name_f]Rhode[/name_f] [name_u]Island[/name_u]. [name_m]Jonas[/name_m] is our pick for a first.

It’s nice but it reminds me of [name_f]Hailey[/name_f] Bieber
