Riff for a boy?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! I’m looking for opinions on the name [name_m]Riff[/name_m] for a boy. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like it? What does it make you think of? What kind of person?

His siblings are [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m].

Thanks!

[name_m]Riff[/name_m] is cool! It’s a little nickname-y to me as a given name, but it has a cool, laid-back, musical feeling and I can totally see someone going by [name_m]Riff[/name_m]. It makes me think of musical riffs, guitars, headphones, and skateboards.

I think it works well with [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m]! Especially with [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m], since it has that cool, quirky nickname vibe. I also think [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] nicknamed [name_m]Riff[/name_m] would work well with the sibset!

I think Riff is pretty cool - kind of rough and tumble, sparky nickname-style, outdoorsy and fun. It does feel like Ozzy - and fits in with names like Ridge, Riggs and Raffy!

It reminds me of a riff (in musical), but it does make me think a bit of ‘causing a rift’ - might just be me though!

First association - musical, as in a guitar riff. Very positive!

Second association - the phrase riff-raff. Is this British-only slang? It’s an offensive phrase used to speak about poor or working class people or any culture looked down upon, meant to describe them as shabby or unruly.

I think [name_m]Riff[/name_m] has huge potential, especially if this phrase isn’t an issue where a person is thinking of using it. The musical thing makes it really cool!

[name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] and [name_m]Riff[/name_m] - fabulous!

I quite like it. My first thoughts are the concepts from music and improv comedy. It also has a handsome surfer guy imagery and West Side Story. I also think of “riff-raff” and “rift”.

In terms of owner - I’d think it was either a musician/ film type who changed his name to Riff for artistic purposes OR an outdoorsy guy whose cool parents gave him the name. I like the idea of Griffin nn Riff but given Ozzy isn’t Oscar etc, not sure you need it…

I think, though, I’d go Raff/Raffa or similar over Riff. Might too much annoying teasing potential with Riff. But seems like a high risk, high reward name…

I can probably get behind it. I’d have to think on it. I love a short name and a good guitar riff.

I think it could be a sweet nickname for a name like:
Rafael/Raphael
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]
[name_m]Ralph[/name_m]

It feels like the name of a bully from an 80s movie, like [name_m]Biff[/name_m] from Back to the [name_m]Future[/name_m].

I love it!!!

Names with similar vibes to [name_m]Riff[/name_m] - [name_m]Kit[/name_m], [name_m]Ford[/name_m], [name_m]Boone[/name_m], [name_m]Easton[/name_m], [name_m]Ace[/name_m], [name_m]Reid[/name_m], [name_m]Ziggy[/name_m], [name_m]Keaton[/name_m], [name_m]Mack[/name_m]

Hmm- haven’t heard it before but i think I like it!

I don’t hate it! Makes me think of [name_m]Riff[/name_m] from [name_m]West[/name_m] Side [name_f]Story[/name_f]

I get beach vibes from it

Not as a full name (I think of the musical term or the slang “riff-raff”), but as a nickname for [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] or something similar.

Another option would be [name_m]Raff[/name_m] which is commonly a short form of [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], [name_m]Raphael[/name_m] etc.

As a musician myself, I’m sure you can guess what comes to mind when I first hear riff. I think of a fun-loving, talented person (also, a trumpet player for some reason).
That sibset is absolutely adorable- however, in all seriousness, people do judge people based on names. A name like [name_m]Riff[/name_m] could make someone most susceptible to bullying, and employers might not take his application as seriously as he would someone with a more common or conventional name, if that makes sense. If you really love it, I would reccommend using it as a nickname.

Reminds me of “riffraff”, unfortunately. I think it would work better as a nickname than as a legal name.
