Riley & Ivy

Are [name_u]Riley[/name_u] & [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] too close sounding for sisters?

If so, we also considered [name_f]Samantha[/name_f], nn sam. But is this name too dated?

Also on the list:

[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_u]Piper[/name_u]

I’d also love any suggestions, just 3 weeks to go and cannot come up with THE name for [name_u]Riley[/name_u]'s sister!

I like both names but they seem far to different in style to go together if you know what I mean. I consider [name_u]Riley[/name_u] to be quite a modern name and ivy an old fashioned name.

[name_u]Riley[/name_u] and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] would get me tongue tied. And I think [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] is lovely, not too dated

[name_u]Riley[/name_u] and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] are not THAT close in sound, but they are a little bit matchy and theme-y with their -ee endings, which may be a problem if you have other kids and do not want to keep with that name pattern. But that’s my only concern with it, though. They are distinct enough, so it’s not like your naming your kids [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], or [name_u]Owen[/name_u] and [name_m]Coen[/name_m]. They are themed, but not in a bad way.

BUT, I do have to say that I love [name_u]Piper[/name_u] and [name_u]Riley[/name_u] together. [name_m]Both[/name_m] have a modern feel, are not frilly, are slightly unissex but are estabilished as girls’ names, and compliment each other really nicely. It’s the best sibset of your options, in my opinion!

[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] are a bit more vintage than [name_u]Riley[/name_u], and their styles kind of clash. Sisters [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] would be lovely, though. Aand, since both are very “girly” names, it would also clash with [name_u]Riley[/name_u]. In a sibset of [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and [name_u]Riley[/name_u] or [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_u]Riley[/name_u], I would assume [name_u]Riley[/name_u] was a boy - which is not the case with [name_u]Piper[/name_u] and [name_u]Riley[/name_u].

And I do think [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] is a bit dated and a little bit overused, but not a bad name. It’s just not my favourite for your sibset.

[name_f]IMO[/name_f], [name_u]Piper[/name_u] is the best name for you, and it would make a lovely match with big sister [name_u]Riley[/name_u].

Best of luck and hope I could help! =)

[name_u]Riley[/name_u] & [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] are both lovely names, a little bit matchy matchy but not overly in my opinion. I’m really not a great lover of [name_f]Samantha[/name_f], and I don’t think it goes with [name_u]Riley[/name_u] or [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] either.

[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] is a beautiful name, as is [name_u]Piper[/name_u]. I think [name_u]Riley[/name_u] & [name_u]Piper[/name_u] sound nice together, both being unisex and quite modern, whereas [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] goes better with [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] as they’re both more girly and cute.

[name_u]Riley[/name_u] and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] are matchy - in two sounds (eye and ee). They’re also different in style so I don’t think [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] would be a good choice. [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] is a bit “dated” and a little too frilly for [name_u]Riley[/name_u]'s sister (although [name_u]Sam[/name_u] is better). [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] would be ok because I don’t find the name too feminine. [name_u]Riley[/name_u] and [name_u]Piper[/name_u] have a shared “eye” sound as well but I think the names are different enough that it’s not too bad. [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and [name_u]Piper[/name_u] would be my picks from your list. Here are some other suggestions.

[name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_u]Morgan[/name_u]
[name_f]Kate[/name_f]

[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]
[name_u]Peyton[/name_u]
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u]
[name_f]Brynn[/name_f]
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_u]Kendall[/name_u]
[name_u]Shannon[/name_u]
[name_f]Megan[/name_f]
[name_f]Willow[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] best with [name_u]Riley[/name_u]. [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] sounds more modern than [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] and isn’t as matchy as [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_u]Piper[/name_u] is fine to but I just prefer [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] personally!

I second rollo’s [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] and [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] suggestion! Other names that may work for you are:

[name_u]Delaney[/name_u]
[name_u]Everly[/name_u]
[name_u]Harper[/name_u]
[name_f]Paige[/name_f]

[name_f]Briar[/name_f]
[name_f]Garland[/name_f]
[name_f]Clover[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f]

[name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_u]Ellison[/name_u]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]

[name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]
[name_u]Blair[/name_u]

[name_u]Kendall[/name_u]
[name_u]Addison[/name_u]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] it was useful. Let us know what you think! =)

You’ve given me some great advice here and a lot to think about! [name_u]Baby[/name_u] will be here in 3 weeks and I’ve never been this indecisive! This is our last (5th) baby and our 4th girl. Our other kids names are: [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] [name_u]Ryan[/name_u], [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Peter[/name_m], grace [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], and [name_u]Riley[/name_u] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband has his heart set on this baby being “[name_u]Delaney[/name_u]” but he named [name_u]Riley[/name_u] after himself ([name_u]Ryan[/name_u]) and I think bc it is unisex I’m really craving a more classic girly name this time…
I realize [name_u]Piper[/name_u] may sound best with [name_u]Riley[/name_u] and he does like this name, too. But on her own, I’d love this baby to be something classic sounding like [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]… I’m just so confused this last time around!!!

Now that I know your other kids’ names, I do think [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] could work, since [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] are very feminine names. I just think that [name_u]Riley[/name_u] may feel left out because all her siblings names are very classic and not unissex at all - my godmother is the only one in her family to have a different initial name, and she has always hated that. Having another kid with a less classic and girly name may solve that possible problem (or maybe I’m just overthinking and creating problems where there are not).

What about [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]? It’s classic and girly, but at the same time feels very modern.

([name_u]Piper[/name_u] is still my favourite, though! I just love it, sp. with your sibset!)

I love [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], but I think [name_u]Piper[/name_u] goes better with [name_u]Riley[/name_u].
