I’m not as much asking for a yay or nay on the name [name_u]Rio[/name_u] itself, just the situation revolving around whether or not I add it to my list.
To cut things short, I adore the name [name_u]Rio[/name_u] and I think it’d be nice to hear it again. I love it for a girl and the song by [name_m]Duran[/name_m] [name_m]Duran[/name_m] fuels my love for it - it’s a favourite song of my mum’s that has been somewhat rubbed onto me.
However, I had a childhood [name_m]German[/name_m] x Belgian shepherd called [name_u]Rio[/name_u]. Absolutely gorgeous dog with a wonderful temperament who protected all of us and was just the best dog ever. That’s one problem: until about 9 years ago (when I was around 9) we had a family dog called [name_u]Rio[/name_u]. Another problem: [name_u]Rio[/name_u] was a male dog.
Would that be an issue to you? If I used the name [name_u]Rio[/name_u] on a child, having had a male dog called the same name when I was a child? At first I wasn’t bothered because the story behind my reasons for loving [name_u]Rio[/name_u] aren’t negative, but the fact it was a male dog and not female bothers me. Well, the fact it was a dog of all things bothers me.
Thanks, I ask too many questions on here!
You could always use [name_f]Ria[/name_f]. If it bothers you. [name_u]Nicky[/name_u] is a family name, so much so that our family once had a dog by that name. Didn’t stop us from using it later on for one of my uncles. I don’t think anything is wrong with it. Sometimes in families there are beloved names.
In the U.S. in 2013, it ranked 3651 in popular baby names for girls with 42 occurrences. It ranked 1618 in popular baby names for boys with 94 occurrences.
I totally agree with you on the fact it’s also a masculine word, which doesn’t help. Although I think that because of the song ([name_u]Rio[/name_u] by [name_m]Duran[/name_m] [name_m]Duran[/name_m]) where [name_u]Rio[/name_u] was in fact a girl, it’ll be less of a shocker to see it on a girl?
No reason not to keep it on your list. When the time comes to look at names in a realistic way, maybe your partner will love it. Maybe your partner will hate it. Keep names that move you on your list, because they’re often great inspiration / jumping points to other names or good for mns.
