We have [name_u]Rio[/name_u] [name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m] the footballer but I also knew a girl [name_u]Rio[/name_u] at school. I’m not really a fan but as a nature name I guess it can go both ways.

My first thought is boy but I think it could work on a girl as well.

I prefer it on a boy since nouns have genders in Spanish and [name_m]German[/name_m] an [name_u]Rio[/name_u]/[name_u]River[/name_u] is masculine in both languages!

I prefer it on a girl but think it would be great for a boy too.

I do prefer it on a boy, though the only [name_u]Rio[/name_u] I know is a girl and she wears it very well!

I think it could go either way. I personally would use it as a middle name for a girl though

Yep, this is why I voted boy, too.

This is why I prefer it on a boy!

I really like it on both. I’ve also seen it used as a name for girls in Japan (with a different meaning, of course).

This! As a Spanish speaker I just can’t see [name_u]Rio[/name_u] on a girl.

I had a [name_m]German[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] dog called [name_u]Rio[/name_u] (male) but I went through a phase of loving [name_u]Rio[/name_u] on a girl. Because it’s a nature name, I think it is equally split between both genders.

In spite of the [name_m]Duran[/name_m] [name_m]Duran[/name_m] song (Her name is [name_u]Rio[/name_u] and she dances on the sand…) which is awesome, for an actual name–[name_u]Rio[/name_u] is definitely all boy! I really like [name_m]Riordan[/name_m] nn [name_u]Rio[/name_u].

I think girl because of the [name_u]Rio[/name_u] song! I think it could go either way though.
