Ripley?

[name]Ellen[/name] [name]Ripley[/name] is one of the best sci-fi heroines of all time, probably the best actually.

What do you think of [name]Ripley[/name] as a name though? I read actress [name]Thandie[/name] [name]Newton[/name] called her daughter [name]Ripley[/name] (after the character) and I actually really like it, but I think that little girl has a lot to live up to!

Would anyone else consider [name]Ripley[/name]?

[name]Ellen[/name] [name]Ripley[/name] is awesome, obviously, but I also think of The Talented Mr. [name]Ripley[/name], and he was not very nice. Then I think of [name]Rip[/name], [name]Jack[/name] the Ripper and Ripipip.

I wouldn’t use [name]Ripley[/name], but it has a very cute sound. It sounds happy and spunky and sweet!

[name]How[/name] about [name]Ellen[/name]…? Really not a fan of the ‘rip’ sound in [name]Ripley[/name].

Yes, the character is very cool, but to me, not worth naming your daughter after a character in an older sci-fi franchise. Not for a first name anyway. I think it would make a very cool middle name, one she could choose to go by later when she understands where it came from, but a more adult name in the front (like [name]Ellen[/name] [name]Ripley[/name] :P). I also go straight from Alien to the word [name]Rip[/name] and [name]Jack[/name] the Ripper (but that’s because I’m a criminal justice major and I’ve done tons of research on [name]Jack[/name] the Ripper).

I think the more common association would be [name]Ripley[/name]'s Believe it or not. Though that’s not a deal break. It’s got a nice sound, but I imagine it being shortened to [name]Rip[/name], which I’m not personally fond of. [name]Nor[/name] the first syllable being [name]Rip[/name]. I think it’d make a spunky middle choice.

I think of the [name]Ripley[/name] books by [name]Patricia[/name] Highsmith & the movie The Talented Mr. [name]Ripley[/name] from one of the books. [name]Ripley[/name] is a criminal.

But I guess it’s less known/culturally relevant than [name]Dexter[/name] and people use that!

It’s not my style cause it’s very surname/unisex and doesn’t have much nickname potential.

I really don’t like it… believe it or not?

I’ve always had kind of a love/hate with this name. I really go back and forth. Right now I’m not loving it, though I do think it would be cute as a middle name, rather than a first.

Believe it or not… I know a [name]Ripley[/name]. She’s an artist with a mess of orange hair, and the name suits her. I think it’s a snappy and interesting name, not too far from [name]Riley[/name], not impossible to wear. If I were naming a daughter [name]Ripley[/name], I’d definitely want to give her an ultra-dignified middle name, in case she decides to run for president.

I think that [name]Ellen[/name] is nice but not [name]Ripley[/name]. [name]Ripley[/name]'s first name wasn’t even [name]Ripley[/name], so I don’t see the point in using it as a first name.

As a fan of sci-fi/horror movies myself, I think it would be a very cool name.

However as you can see here a lot of people will have other associations with the name, so it’s up to you if you love it enough to go with it. [name]Don[/name]'t reject it just because not everyone else loves it, as quirky names are not going to please everybody anyway, and the point of a name is to please you and the person you are giving it to. If you think it won’t meet that criteria, then maybe it’s not the best name for a child.

I don’t know who [name]Ellen[/name] [name]Ripley[/name] is, so I wouldn’t get the reference. And even if I did, I don’t think I would use the name [name]Ripley[/name]. I think of “[name]Ripley[/name]'s Believe it Or Not” book. Also, “The Talented Mr. [name]Ripley[/name]” and [name]Jack[/name] the Ripper.

i know a 3 year old named [name]Ripley[/name]. I had to repeat the name to myself several times as it just seemed so weird. but now i am used to it and think its an ok name.

I’m currently watching this show on geek & sundry where one of the host’s has a daughter called [name]Vivian[/name] [name]Ripley[/name] (the host’s middle name is [name]Ellen[/name]). I think [name]Ellen[/name] [name]Ripley[/name] is an awesome namesake, but for a girl I would reserve it for middle spot.

I find [name]Ripley[/name] to be very unattractive, sorry. [name]Ellen[/name] is lovely, though.
