Does it work? [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I really like it, though I worry it might sound a little too hippie, but it rolls off the tongue beautifully. The only [name_m]Rivers[/name_m] we know of are [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] (male) and the [name_u]River[/name_u] characters from Dr. Who and Firefly (both female and more recent).
I adore [name_u]River[/name_u] as a boy’s name. I think it’s beautiful and conjures gorgeous imagery. According to Nameberry (the best source! ;)), [name_u]River[/name_u] is 2/3 used for boys and 1/3 for girls (River - Baby Name Meaning, Origin, and Popularity | Nameberry)
Best of luck!
I love the name [name_u]River[/name_u]. It is all boy to me. It has been on my guilty pleasure list for years. Would love to use it one day if the OH loved it too.
I would use [name_u]Rio[/name_u] ([name_u]River[/name_u] in spanish) as a nickname.
It’s a great name!
There’s a boy named [name_u]River[/name_u] on my son’s soccer team. He’s 16 yo, and a cool kid.
[name_u]River[/name_u] is one of my guilty pleasures too! I would never use it because I’m the least outdoorsy person there is and [name_u]River[/name_u] has a very naturey vibe in my opinion. I have never heard of a girl named [name_u]River[/name_u]. If you really like it, go for it
I don’t personally know any [name_m]Rivers[/name_m], but most of the time in real life, I think it’s used as a boys name. Unfortunately, thanks to [name_u]River[/name_u] Song from [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who, I’ve kind of been put off the name (I don’t like her), and I’m swaying towards it being a girls name. But I’d probably easily change my mind if I met an adorable little boy called [name_u]River[/name_u].
I love [name_u]River[/name_u] on a boy! Lately I’ve been thinking about using it as a middle name. I say go for it!
[name_u]River[/name_u] is very handsome. A wonderful nature name.
I absolutely adore the name [name_u]River[/name_u] as a first name. I think of [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u], too, and while he had a tragic death, he was an 80s teen idol: for good reason, too! I love it and say go for it! If my husband weren’t so picky, I’d use it!
[name_u]River[/name_u] is one of the most unisex nature names out there. It has beautiful, calming imagery, and I think it works perfectly for a girl or a boy. I prefer it for a boy myself.
[name_u]River[/name_u] is very handsome. I prefer it on boys.
Although it’s one of my GPs, this thread has got me thinking about it as a real possibility. If you like it, go for it!
I didn’t read all the comments, but I have to say that I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]River[/name_u] on a boy. The only [name_u]River[/name_u] I know [name_m]IRL[/name_m] is a boy and he’s amazing. It’s really handsome and strong to me.
[name_u]River[/name_u] is a boy’s name, as far as I’m concerned, and eminently usable. I love it.
I love the name [name_u]River[/name_u] for either gender. It’s my top name for a child [either gender].
I love [name_u]River[/name_u] for a boy! I say go for it.
Here’s another question, then. Does it work with [name_m]Jerome[/name_m] as the middle name? [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]Jerome[/name_m]? [name_m]Jerome[/name_m] would be honoring great-grandpa so we would really like it as the middle if it sounds ok.
I think that [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]Jerome[/name_m] is very handsome and I love that it honors someone for you.
I think [name_u]River[/name_u], while still unusual and naturey, has become established enough to lose the hippy vibe.
[name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]Jerome[/name_m] is very handsome. I used to love [name_u]River[/name_u] for both genders but I recently ran into a little girl [name_u]River[/name_u] and it just didn’t feel right. It seemed so rough and manly; almost cowboy-like. Now it’s only on my boy list.
Thanks all. I do believe [name_u]River[/name_u] may have just moved into our number 1 spot! And if we have a boy and a girl down the road, I think [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_u]River[/name_u] make a pretty cute sib set!
