I’m trying to decide between [name_u]Roan[/name_u] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] at the moment. I much prefer the look of [name_u]Roan[/name_u], but I’m worried people would pronounce it as one syllable, to rhyme with [name_u]Joan[/name_u], rather than pronounced the same as [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. Which do you prefer?
I immedietly read [name_u]Roan[/name_u] as one syllable. I didn’t even realize that [name_u]Roan[/name_u] could have a two syllable pronunciation. If you don’t want to correct everyone, I suggest using [name_u]Rowan[/name_u].
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] for the same reason. And I think it looks better.
Well, I was introduced to [name_u]Roan[/name_u] as the same pronunciation as [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] and I much prefer the shorter spelling.
I thought [name_u]Roan[/name_u] did rhyme with [name_u]Joan[/name_u]. I think in you want people to say [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] you should spell it [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] or [name_u]Rohan[/name_u].
I adore both. I have both on my short list. I think I slightly prefer [name_u]Roan[/name_u] for a first name and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] for a middle name. Unsure why.
I like both, but i do think a lot of people will assume [name_u]Roan[/name_u] to rhyme with [name_u]Joan[/name_u] (or, unfortunately, groan). So if you’re torn, i would go with [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. But if you strongly prefer [name_u]Roan[/name_u] visually, i don’t think it should be a deal breaker. My personal favorite similar names are [name_u]Rohan[/name_u] and [name_m]Ronan[/name_m].
I read [name_u]Roan as two syllables at first, but only because it was paired with [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. If it had been on its own, I would have pronounced it ROHN, with only one syllable. If you don’t like the ‘w’ in [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], you could spell it [name_u]Rohan[/name_u]; if you like how short [name_u]Roan[/name_u] is, you could spell it Roen.
I prefer [name_u]Roan[/name_u] (rhymes with [name_u]Joan[/name_u]), like the horse color.
how about [name_u]Rohan[/name_u]?
I know two [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]'s who were both girls and one [name_u]Rohan[/name_u] who was a boy. I think [name_u]Rohan[/name_u] is a gorgeous name for a boy
If you want it pronounced “[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]” and not like the word “roan” then definitely use [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] spelling.
When most people (not name enthusiasts) see it they will say it with one syllable, rhyming with [name_u]Joan[/name_u], until they are corrected. I definitely prefer [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. There is also [name_u]Rowen[/name_u] if you like that spelling better (I’m torn between them). Unless you strongly prefer [name_u]Roan[/name_u], I would go with [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]. But always go with the one you love the most in the end!
Regarding the people suggesting [name_u]Rohan[/name_u], that is a good alternative but to anyone familiar with [name_m]Lord[/name_m] of the Rings they will probably think of/pronounce it like the region in the series, pronounced [name_f]RO[/name_f]-hahn. [name_m]Just[/name_m] something to consider.
I prefer [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]!
I really like both, and personally prefer [name_u]Roan[/name_u] in looks as well. But I do have to agree that [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] would cause much less spelling and pronunciation mishaps.
