Romanian Name Love!

So, a few weeks ago I returned from spending some time on a mission team in Romania, where I fell completely in love with the country. And more than the country, the most amazing names that I found! Being somewhat of a namenerd, I just had to keep a diary of the names of people I met out there, and I thought I’d share some of my favourites, and the more interesting ones here, to see what y’all think  The names are all fairly heavy on the accents, but I’m sure that most of them don’t need them to work.

Girls

Aur”lia
B”a - ([name]BEE[/name]-a) - I think this was a nn for [name]Bianca[/name]?
C?t?lina
Corn”lia - (cor-NAY-lia)
D”ria - (DA-ree-a)
[name]Denis[/name]? - (day-nee-SA)
[name]Edena[/name] - (eh-[name]DAY[/name]-na) - absolutely loved this!
[name]Flor[/name]”ka - (flor-EE-ka)
[name]Flor[/name]”na - (flor-EE-na) - this is really common out there, I met about five [name]Flor[/name]”nas in one village alone! I thought it was adorable!
I”anna - (you-AN-a)
I”l”a - (YOU-lia)
L”via -([name]LEE[/name]-vee-a)
Maddelena - (ma-del-[name]LAY[/name]-na) - could make an interesting variation of [name]Madeleine[/name]/[name]Madeline[/name]?
[name]Mar[/name]”a
M?rta - I thought this would make the sweetest version of [name]Martha[/name] here - [name]Marta[/name] just sounds so much modern,I think
[name]Moll[/name]”na - (moll-EE-na) - just adorable!
[name]Sol[/name]”da - (sol-EE-da)

Boys

[name]Al[/name]”x
Andr”
Bogd”n - (bog-[name]DAN[/name]) - this baffled me as I’d never heard anything remotely like it!
C?t?lin - (cat-a-LEEN) - love it, but not sure if it would work in the [name]West[/name] due to its similarity to [name]Cathleen[/name]…
Cosm”n - (cos-MEEN)
[name]Emmanuel[/name] - (ay-man-OO-el) - prn. slightly differently to Western version
[name]Florian[/name] - ([name]FLOR[/name]-ee-an) - love love love it!
Florin - (flor-EEN)
”onut - (yon-OOT)
”osua - (yo-SOO-a) - Slavic version of [name]Joshua[/name]
M”t” - (ma-[name]TAY[/name]) - Romanian version of [name]Matthew[/name]
[name]Mikhail[/name] - (mik-[name]HI[/name])
Stelli?n - (stel-ee-AN)
Th”odore - (tay-o-DOR-ay) - rising in popularity in Romania as well as the [name]West[/name], apparently!

I used to work at a daycare that had a Romanian family. Parents were Florin and Keta ([name]Kay[/name]-ta) and the children were Florin [name]Andre[/name], [name]Luca[/name] [name]Jon[/name] and Nicolae. They were considering [name]George[/name] ([name]George[/name]-ay) for Nicolae and I love that so much more than our standard [name]George[/name]. I love the names from this country.

Names I love from this list:

Aur”lia - This seems like a nicer version of [name]Aurora[/name] to me.
B”a - ([name]BEE[/name]-a) - Since [name]Bianca[/name] is one of my favorite foreign names this is too cute!
C?t?lina - I think this might be more user friendly than [name]Catriona[/name].
Maddelena - (ma-del-[name]LAY[/name]-na) - I love the sound of this name but it may be too close to Magdelena for me.
M?rta - I met a cute little girl named [name]Marta[/name] a few years ago with a sister named [name]Greta[/name] and brother named [name]Monte[/name].

[name]Al[/name]”x - I think this might be a fresher sound than [name]Alex[/name].
M”t” - (ma-[name]TAY[/name]) - I love [name]Mateo[/name], so this name is great!
[name]Mikhail[/name] - (mik-[name]HI[/name]) - I love [name]Mikhail[/name] (mik-ale) so this name is similar.
Stelli?n - (stel-ee-AN) - I love [name]Stellan[/name] so this name is like an off shoot of that for me.

I am glad you had fun in Romania, my sister is over in Eastern Europe and has been for a year on mission work.
