Romany Blue

I am having a tough time coming up with a boy’s name that I like, but one that I seem to keep coming back to is “[name]Romany[/name] [name]Blue[/name].” What comes to mind for you when you hear that name, and are there others that seem similar in some way that you could recommend? Thanks.

[name]Romany[/name] is actually the name the [name]Gypsy[/name] people call themselves. [name]Romany[/name] [name]Blue[/name] sounds like a song name to my ears! Sorry, it wouldn’t be a good choice in my opinion.

I think that if you love the name ” you should always go with it, and try and ignore all criticism (including mine below).

Personally, I think, [name]Romany[/name] [name]Blue[/name] is very poetic, but maybe a little to much. And it has quite a sad ring to it. It is also a little girly.

Similar to [name]Romany[/name] include -
[name]Roman[/name]
[name]Romulus[/name]
[name]Remus[/name]
[name]Remington[/name]
[name]Ramone[/name]
[name]Romilly[/name]
[name]Romy[/name]
[name]Raphael[/name]
[name]Rem[/name]

Maybe check out the Artist Names and Color Names lists.

I actually really like the way the name sounds. It verges on unisex but I like that in a name. If you have concerns with it, maybe you could go with something that has a similar ring to it but is more masculine or is unrelated to gypsies.

[name]Amory[/name] [name]Crew[/name]
[name]Avory[/name] [name]Jude[/name]
[name]Ellery[/name] [name]Cruz[/name]
[name]Conery[/name] [name]True[/name]
[name]Jeromy[/name] [name]Drew[/name]
[name]Jovany[/name] [name]Beau[/name] (pronounced [name]Bow[/name])
[name]Saxony[/name] [name]Luke[/name]

However, I don’t personally think any of these names really sound as good as yours… [name]Jovany[/name] [name]Beau[/name] is nice, but I think [name]Romany[/name] [name]Blue[/name] is better. The meaning behind [name]Jovany[/name] [name]Beau[/name] is nice though…Beautiful gift is how it can be roughly translated

I recently saw a band who was named after The [name]Romany[/name] [name]Rye[/name]. I instantly fell in love with the name. However, [name]Romany[/name] [name]Blue[/name] just sounds silly to me. Change [name]Blue[/name] and you’d have a very cool name. Rom, [name]Roe[/name], [name]Manny[/name], [name]Roman[/name], Omy woud all make cool nicknames.

[name]Romany[/name] [name]Luke[/name]
[name]Romany[/name] [name]Jude[/name]
[name]Romany[/name] [name]Shea[/name]
[name]Romany[/name] [name]Grier[/name]
[name]Romany[/name] [name]Jules[/name]
[name]Romany[/name] [name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Romany[/name] [name]Kellen[/name]
[name]Romany[/name] [name]Brooks[/name]

The lead singer of [name]Romany[/name] [name]Rye[/name] is named [name]Luke[/name], coincidentally. I think it sounds nice together.

[name]Romany[/name] [name]Blue[/name] sounds like a movie star! (Or a movie star’s kid.) It has a nice ring to it. It also sounds feminine to me.

Thanks - helpful feedback. “Poetic,” “unisex,” “nice ring”…I can get with all of that  But “sad,” “song-like,” & “too much”…those are immediate impressions worth paying attention to. I’ve got a beautifully illustrated book titled, “[name]Romany[/name] [name]Free[/name],” and that’s probably influenced my leaning toward the name [name]Romany[/name]. I’m less invested in [name]Blue[/name], though. (Actually, I’ve been trying to convince my bf of “Bluet” as a girls middle name, as he’s french and a big-time blueberry-lover, but he thinks THAT’S too much!) The alternative middle names you all have provided are great, and I also like the suggestion of [name]Jovany[/name], as another name I’ve always liked is [name]Jove[/name]. Thanks again.

[name]How[/name] about [name]Romany[/name] Truette?

It is a bit feminine sounding, to the point where I would assume it was a girl on paper. But my main issue with it is the [name]Gypsy[/name] association- it may be percieved as disrespectful, akin to naming your child “Iroquois” or “Chinese.” I would strongly advise against using it for this reason. [name]Roman[/name] may be a good alternative.

It has a cool ring to it. It would be a great main character in a story or a poem. But I’m not sure how well it would work for an actual boy’s name in real life.

Definitely is memorable. It sounds like a restaurant to me.

I know quite a few girls called [name]Romany[/name], I’ve never thought about it as a boy’s name but it works. I wouldn’t consider it disrespectful, any more than calling your daughter [name]India[/name].

Incidentally, ‘[name]Gypsy[/name]’ is actually a non-specific term used for a number of different nomadic peoples - [name]Romany[/name], Irish Travellers etc.

For what its worth, I love [name]Blue[/name], and I love [name]Romany[/name] [name]Blue[/name]. I think people often react to strong names, but I like its strength and rhythm. And middle names so often disappear into obscurity anyway, you may as well choose one that resonates for you.

I would drop the ‘y’.
