Rook for a boy?

We have a [name_u]Beck[/name_u] (short for [name_u]Beckett[/name_u]) and I really like the name Rook as a sibling name.

What do you think of Rook?
Any ideas for a longer version?

Firstly, I love your sons name!

Honestly, all I can think of is a swindler, so I’m not sure about it as a name. Maybe you’d like something similar like [name_u]Brooks[/name_u], [name_m]Stone[/name_m], or [name_m]Rocky[/name_m] maybe?

i think rook is okay, but you would need a longer name to match beckett

i like the previous suggestion of brooks. beckett & brooks go well together!

you may also like reid as an alternative?

Rook is a word that means to cheat or swindle people and i use this word in that context alot so i can’t see it as a name

I prefer [name_m]Roarke[/name_m] NN: [name_u]Rory[/name_u],[name_u]Rooney[/name_u] NN:"[name_m]Roone[/name_m]", or even Rocco with Beckett

I think of Rooky.

I absolutely love the name Rook, it was actually on my list for my third. I think of the bird. Gorgeous.

Rook is so sweet! I think it goes great with [name_u]Beckett[/name_u]. :relaxed: I also think of the bird when I hear Rook

When I hear Rook I immidiately think of the chess piece so I find it hard to imagine someone being named Rook. However, maybe it’s something you’ll get used to after a while.

As a longer version, Rokus, [name_u]Rocco[/name_u], [name_m]Rurik[/name_m] or Ruarc could work.

I like Rook! It makes me think of the bird (love nature names!) and also the card game.

Oh my gosh, Rook is one of my favorite names but I’d totally forgotten it. I love Rook, and I think it goes perfectly with [name_u]Beck[/name_u]!

Love it as a brother to [name_u]Beckett[/name_u]! Agree with above - first thoughts are chess & the bird - but I actually think it works perfectly on its own without needing a longform.

If you still want one, I like the suggestions of [name_m]Roarke[/name_m], [name_u]Rooney[/name_u] or [name_u]Rocco[/name_u] :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Seems to be a negative reaction to it so how about the E on the end like the surname. Rooke makes me think of the bird? I like it
The only longer version I can think of is Rookery ?
Maybe you’d like [name_u]Raven[/name_u]? [name_u]Or[/name_u] [name_u]Blake[/name_u].

Rook is so cool! I really like it!

Maybe [name_m]Rockwell[/name_m] nn Rook?

Rook is very cool! [name_f]My[/name_f] first thoughts were the chess piece and the ear piercing–both random, neutral things that I doubt I’d ever think of again after the first time meeting someone with the name. I didn’t know about the bird or the meaning ā€œswindleā€ until I read this thread. Honestly though, the latter does put me off a bit. I love the previous suggestion of [name_u]Reid[/name_u] as an alternative–I adore it on its own, and it feels equally perfect with both [name_u]Beckett[/name_u] and [name_u]Beck[/name_u] imo. I actually think Rook is a little closer to [name_u]Beck[/name_u] soundwise than I’d personally want, just because the ā€œkā€ ending is pretty distinctive and they’re both one syllable.

Maybe [name_u]Brooks[/name_u] or [name_m]Brooker[/name_m]?

I love [name_u]Beck[/name_u] & Rook together! ā€˜Rookie’ might slip out every now and then as a subconscious nickname. Personally, I don’t think I’d mind because Rook is still a really cool name.

I use the expression ā€œto get rookedā€ which means get cheated out of something.

Not a fan of Rook as a full name as there are so many everyday connections, however, I think as a nickname it really fits in well with Beck.
