What do you guys think of Root. I think it’s an unusual nature name. Is it usable? Are there any names that could use root as a nn?
I love roots. I adore trees, they’re my favourite thing and the roots are so important, it’s how they absorb water and everything! Unfortunately there’s another association… root canal.
I had never thought of Root as a nature name before since it is usually the Hebrew name for [name]Ruth[/name]. I knew an Israeli girl who went by Rootie (which is cute, to me). Root, or [name]Rut[/name], doesn’t have much appeal on its own.
I’m not fond of Root for a name. It makes me think of the dentist for some reason. I had a best friend in grade school we called [name]Rut[/name] because of her last name (with a short U sound). I don’t think she liked it, but put up with it because all of her siblings and even her parents were sometimes called [name]Rut[/name]. Some people would pronounce it Root and she’d really get upset.
Pretty sure ‘root’ is an Australian slang term for sex, like the equivalent of the f-word.
[name]Even[/name] if it wasn’t I dislike it as a name. It doesn’t have a pleasant sound to me and is too ‘word-y’ to make a good name for me.
Not [name]Ginger[/name]? or [name]Ruthie[/name] nn Root?
Root makes me think of a pig rooting for tubers. Sorry! I like the feeling you’re going for… Any other names you’re considering?
Well, I’m a Southerner so I immediately think of a ‘root’ or a voodoo/hoodoo spell. [name]Love[/name] nature names but I’d never use that
I don’t like Root at all. I think “the root of all evil” or root canal before I think nature name. Try [name]Ruth[/name] instead.
I’m sorry, but it just doesn’t sound pretty to me. I like the idea of going for a lesser-used nature name. I overheard a woman calling her little girl [name]Branch[/name], which also sounded kind of harsh and unappealing imo. I was extremely curious to know what her older daughter’s name was, but there’s just no way to ask without sounding like a creep.
I love different names but can’t into Root. Sorry.
Yeah, here in [name]New[/name] Zealand, to root someone is to have sex with them. Like “she looks like a good root” sort of thing.
Root? Really? Like as in “she looks like a good root”? I personally think it’s a little… Drab. I quite like the name [name]Leaf[/name], actually.
Yes, yes it is. I would strongly advise not to name a child Root if you thought there was ever a chance they would visit Australia.
It sure is slang! I giggled at the baseball when I visited the US and they all yelled out root… and I’m 24… so no, please do not name your child that.
Root, root, root for the home team…
Root = baby attempting to suckle
Rooting’ tooting’ good time
[name]Fancy[/name] a root?
We shall eradicate the infection down to the very root…
All come to mind.
