Rory for a girl

I’ve been watching [name]Gilmore[/name] Girls lately (man do I ever get name inspiration from shows) but it’s struck me how much I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Rory[/name]! I know it’s traditionally a boy’s name, but I’ve always thought it sounds pretty girly, even though I know a male [name]Rory[/name]. I think it fits in super well with the unisex trend - it would be very spunky on a little girl, imo.

Wdyt? And what full names do you like for it, aside from [name]Lorelai[/name]/[name]Lorelei[/name] and [name]Aurora[/name]? [name]Do[/name] you think [name]Lorelai[/name] nn [name]Rory[/name] will always be too “[name]Gilmore[/name] Girls”? Or do you just like it on its own?

I haven’t ever seen the [name]Gilmore[/name] Girls so it has no association for me.
[name]Rory[/name] seems very possible- especially as a nn for a longer girly name like [name]Aurora[/name].
As I think and type… I like it more and more. Very cute!

Not a fan of [name]Lorelai[/name] myself.

I like [name]Rory[/name] as a nickname for a girl, a lot. [name]Lorelai[/name] nn [name]Rory[/name] is very [name]Gilmore[/name] Girlish, but hardly anyone will care.

I like [name]Aurora[/name] nn [name]Rory[/name] most though.

I think [name]Rosemary[/name] can work as a full name for nickname [name]Rory[/name]! I’ve never seen [name]Gilmore[/name] Girls, so I don’t know if [name]Lorelai[/name] nn [name]Rory[/name] is [name]Gilmore[/name] Girlish, but I’m not a fan of [name]Lorelai[/name]. Good luck!

I think rory is nice for a girl and it doesn’t really make me think of that show

[name]Rory[/name] is one of the few names I like for both sexes. I like it on its own or as a nn. Another full name option could be [name]Victoria[/name],

[name]Rory[/name] is an excellent choice for a boy or girl; definitely unisex. I’ve been watching a lot of [name]Gilmore[/name] Girls lately, too and think that [name]Lorelai[/name] nn [name]Rory[/name] is a really wearable option. The only other options I can think of are [name]Romilly[/name] (nms but cute) and [name]Laura[/name] (my own name so I may be a tad biased :P).

[name]Gilmore[/name] Girls is like crack to a name nerd like me!! So many great options to choose from.

I watch the show a lot, but I wouldn’t be bothered or overly-associate it with the show. If you name your kid [name]Lucy[/name], a few people will associate it w/ I [name]Love[/name] [name]Lucy[/name], etc. And I actually think [name]Lorelai[/name] is a lot more unique… [name]Aurora[/name] may get lost in all of the vowel-heavy A-names lately?

[name]Love[/name] that show. If I met a girl named [name]Lorelai[/name] nn [name]Rory[/name], I would immediately guess her parents were fans of the series. But I like the name [name]Rory[/name] on a girl (as well as a boy) a great deal–as a nickname for something else and as a stand-alone name.

I would go with [name]Aurora[/name] nickname [name]Rory[/name].

[name]Love[/name] it. It’s on my list. I would use [name]Lorelei[/name] nn [name]Rory[/name]. I really don’t care if people think I got it from the show… because I did! I’ve also considered [name]Rory[/name] all by its lonesome too.

[name]Rory[/name] is definitely usable as a girl’s name, and I think it can stand on its own. I love the pp’s suggestion of [name]Victoria[/name] nn [name]Rory[/name]. Also, I’ve had [name]Rory[/name] suggested as a nickname for [name]Ramona[/name].

I think of the show when I see [name]Rory[/name] but that’s because it’s my favorite show of all time
With my first I was considering [name]Rory[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name], just like that, with [name]Rory[/name] being the full first name. Actually I still really love that combo. I think if you love [name]Rory[/name] you could just use it, if you wanted. It’s spunky and to me, it makes me think of a smart, ambitious girl (probably due to the show).
I like princessimogen’s suggestion of [name]Rosemary[/name] nn [name]Rory[/name].

[name]Lorelai[/name] and [name]Rory[/name] will always just remind me of gilmore girls… I don’t really like [name]Rory[/name] anyway, although I do love [name]Lorelai[/name]. I would substitute [name]Lorraine[/name] or [name]Elaina[/name] for [name]Lorelai[/name]… And if you really like [name]Rory[/name], I would go with [name]Rosemary[/name] or [name]Aurora[/name].

I like [name]Rory[/name] as a nn for [name]Aurora[/name] as well. I think of the name [name]Rory[/name] as a boy’s name mainly because I know a sibset whose names are [name]Rory[/name] (b) and [name]Romy[/name] (g).

[name]Rory[/name] is all boy to me, and I think (probably, sorry if I’m wrong) is to most people here in [name]England[/name], anyway.
I know that now I’ve said that, hundreds of English Berries are going to pounce upon me, telling me about their sisters/female cousins called [name]Rory[/name] so I apologise in advance

Good luck - I like [name]Leila[/name] as a nickname for [name]Lorelai[/name]!

^^ I agree. Very [name]Gilmore[/name] Girlish but, who cares? I also like [name]Aurora[/name] nn [name]Rory[/name] better.

Nope, you’re right. [name]Rory[/name] is traditionally a boys name. It’s not unisex in the slightest. The only way I find it acceptable on a girl is an [name]Aurora[/name] nicknamed [name]Rory[/name].

Yeah, I totally agree (though I’m Northern Irish rather than English ;)). I can’t even imagine a girl called [name]Rory[/name]. In fact I know someone who got a dog with the name [name]Aurora[/name] as part of her kennel name and the original idea was to call her [name]Aurora[/name] nn [name]Rory[/name]. I think most people basically replied with ‘You can’t call her [name]Rory[/name], she’s a girl’. And this is a dog, not even a person. She gets called both [name]Rory[/name] and [name]Aurora[/name] and I think she gets [name]Aurora[/name] more.

I think it’s awful. Passable as a nickname, I suppose, but as a given name for a girl - no.
