I had [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] on my list until I noticed a lot of people pronounced it like [name_f]ROZ[/name_f]-a-lind. For some reason I was pronouncing it [name_f]ROSE[/name_f]-ə-lin and thought that was another pronunciation for it. I took it off my list because I didn’t like the possible pronunciation problems. Recently I added [name_f]Rosalyn[/name_f] on my list because I figured it would be the best way to get the pronunciation I wanted with it, but I don’t love the -lyn part. It just seems very trendy to me and isn’t pleasing to my eye. I still love [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]. I love the way it looks and was happy when I thought the pronunciation was [name_f]ROSE[/name_f]-ə-lin/[name_f]ROSE[/name_f]-ə-lind. I just find [name_f]ROZ[/name_f] to be a very unattractive sound and I’m not sure if using this name is worth having to correct people all the time.
So my question is: [name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you use [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Roz[/name_f] for the first syllable?
ETA:
I know that the correct pronunciation is Roz. I don’t like any other Rose names besides Rosemary.
I also say rosa-lind. Everyone I know says it that way. [name_f]ROZ[/name_f] is think is the more ‘correct’ one but I think it’s fine. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you want other [name_f]Rose[/name_f] names? I’ll list some in case:
[name_f]Rosaline[/name_f] – this is one of my favorites
Rosabel
[name_f]Rosalba[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalyn[/name_f] – I list this to say, would you be adverse to just spelling it [name_f]Rosalin[/name_f]/[name_f]Rosalen[/name_f]?
[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]
Roselani – heavenly rose is such a sweet meaning
[name_f]Rosetta[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosina[/name_f]
Rosinda
Roswitha
I wouldn’t mind spelling it Rosalin, but it looks a bit incomplete to me. It’s definitely a possibility though because I could get the pronunciation I want and get rid of that pesky ‘y’. Rosalind(with the Rosa-lind pronunciation) and Rosemary are my favorite Rose names. I’ve went through every Rose name on BehindtheName and I’m drawn to them more than any other name.
I’d prefer rose- for sound but roz- is right. Everyone here would say roz unless I coached them. And people would think I didn’t know how to say it right.
I was devastated to find out [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] has the same issue. 'Cause I LOVED the idea of rosa-mund, like the flower “rosa mundi” which means “rose of the world” and is a beautiful antique variety of striped rose.
I pronounce [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_f]ROZ[/name_f]-uh-lind. For what it’s worth, when I saw [name_f]Rosalyn[/name_f], I thought the intended pronunciation was [name_f]ROZ[/name_f]-uh-lin
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] is more intuitive for me, but I love [name_f]Roz[/name_f]- pronunciation. I also have it on my list and I realise that if I end up using it, my family will pronounce it [name_f]Rose[/name_f]-, though I want it to be [name_f]Roz[/name_f]-. I don’t think that matters though.
