Rose as a first name - boring or unexpected?

The name [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is growing on me, but as a first. I’m not sure I’d ever use it but I’m curious to hear other thoughts on it as a first name. Most people consider [name_f]Rose[/name_f] to be a boring and “filler” middle name but how do you feel about it as a first? I’ve only ever met one girl named [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and it’s alot less popular than I thought it’d be for a first name. In 2012, it was #261 in the US and has consistently stayed in the 200’s and 300’s since 1999. I was pretty surprised by that.

So how do you feel about [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as a first name? Like it? Unexpected? Still boring?

I like it a lot as a first. I don’t like it much at all as a middle.

I’d only ever use it up front, probably with a rather elaborate middle of 3-5 syllables.

I know one [name_f]Rose[/name_f] under 25, and she’s lovely. She’s in college now, I had a chat to her dad who is a name nerd and he wanted a classic name that wasn’t in the top hundred. It was that then, and now.

You could go a lot of different ways with the middle, either another classic name or something really obscure, and either way [name_f]Rose[/name_f] holds its own.

At the moment I’m toying with the idea of pairings like [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Leocadia[/name_f] - 5 syllable middles call for a first both feminine and grounded, I think.

Ditto - know a couple with a longish last name who just named their baby daughter this, it’s lovely.

I just love [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as a first name! I have never run into any children named [name_f]Rose[/name_f] so I would think it very fresh and unexpected.

I love it as a first, but would never put it in the middle. I have only met a few adult Roses come to think of it, and no children with this name.

As a first name [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is fresh, simple, and lovely. It’s completely lackluster in the middle due to overuse. I would consider using [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as a first name. My only hesitation is red rose funeral imagery. Such imagery, though, is followed closely by thoughts of sweet wild roses and rose hips, which is more pleasant and country/wholesome-feeling.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] not get me started on the filler talk ([name_u]Shilo[/name_u], not you personally), I find it ridiculous. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is gorgeous, and it is the same name (and just as gorgeous) whether it is used as a first name or a middle name. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is special to me and my family. Again, it remains special whether I would use it as a first name or middle name.

I don’t agree with the “filler” concept either, I love names like [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. But I know that’s how other people see it. I love them

I love [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as a first name! It’s short and sweet and beautiful. I don’t mind it in the middle spot, especially when it flows, but it is a little overused. I would love to meet a little [name_f]Rose[/name_f]! It’s darling.

Thanks for the replies. I find myself contemplating [name_f]Rose[/name_f] more and more…

I love the idea of [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as a FN with a longer 3 syllable + MN. I don’t consider it as a filler name, ever, since it stands so beautifully on its own and has so much spunk and personality [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I considered it for a combo: [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]. My mom didn’t like it though. [name_m]Said[/name_m] it was an old lady name. I only ever met one [name_f]Rose[/name_f] before. In high school.

I like it in the middle… and I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] it in the front. Esp. if your last name is long or you want a long middle. I also love [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] FWIW.

The surname is 2 syllables… so I’m on the hunt for the perfect 3+ syllable middle name for [name_f]Rose[/name_f].

I saw your other thread and I commented on there but I will suggest:

[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Araminta[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Katerina[/name_f]

I know these names are not “whimsical” but how many people want to use [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] but can’t because the first name ends in “a” or it’s simply too long?

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as a first name, so pretty for a little girl but also strong & classic for a woman. I know 2 baby Roses’ under 2 years old & I don’t think it’s boring at all.

[name_f]Rose[/name_f] is lovely but, as a middle, has become kind of expected so when I hear of another baby with the middle name [name_f]Rose[/name_f] it just doesn’t seem so exciting any more. As a first though, that is much more unexpected. Plus, you get to show off the beauty of the name more often because middles aren’t used very often. I think it’s about time [name_f]Rose[/name_f] was promoted to the first name spot

I love [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as a first name. As a middle name, I think it is expected - not boring, really, but definitely not unique - but as a first, it’s much less commonplace. And it is so lovely.

I love the name [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I even have two friends who love the name also but can’t use it for their babies as their husbands don’t like it. I’m in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] just made it into the top 100 here in 2012. I’m a teacher and I’ve met two four year old Roses who were total sweethearts
