So, my husband and I have pretty different taste in names. Anyone else have this problem?!
The one name we both love is [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. But our surname begins with Z, so we’re worried it jars. So first question: can we get away with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] Z…? And if not, what about [name_f]Rosa[/name_f]? Any other [name_f]Rose[/name_f]- alternatives?
The only other name we can both almost agree on is [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]. I prefer some of the [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] nicknames to the full name (I worry it’s a bit staid?) but nicknames we like are [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] or [name_f]Effy[/name_f].
If you were us, would you go [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (or alternative) or [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] (or alternative)?
I also like [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] (even I admit that might be a bit much!) but they’ve all been vetoed. If you have any ideas that you think we might both like, would welcome thoughts!
If that is the name you love, I don’t think blending into the surname is the end of the world. If you start watching for this, you will see that it is actually very common. [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] is a nice alternative if it really does bother you. Another possibility might be [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f].
Ideas you might both like:
[name_f]Susanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Julianna[/name_f]
[name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]May[/name_f]/[name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Ellen[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
I agree with the PP if you love [name_f]Rose[/name_f] stick with that name. My fav [name_f]Rose[/name_f] alt is [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f].
If you want some other names to think on, what do you think of:
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_f]Amy[/name_f]
[name_f]Rhea[/name_f]
[name_f]Raina[/name_f]/[name_f]Rayna[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] nn [name_u]Penny[/name_u] (I think a little more approachable than [name_f]Persephone[/name_f])
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] is just gorgeous. [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] is also lovely. My best friend is [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and we call her [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
Honestly I probably wouldn’t go with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] with your surname. It doesn’t sound the best. Maybe [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]? If you like [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] I think that’s a good option because of the great nicknames. [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] nn [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] would be adorable.
My maiden name was [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m]. I never noticed it ran together until I joined nb; no one ever brought it up! I think it’s generally a non-issue.
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] Zuckerman or [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_m]Zackery[/name_m] sounds fine to me. My second favourite for you is [name_f]Elsie[/name_f].
Second everything, but [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]… I would suggest [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], it goes better with [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] as possible sister name… I also have never been fan of [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]…
I’d probably go for a name like [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]. You could always nickname her [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (or [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]). I like the name [name_f]Rosa[/name_f], but it still runs a bit with your last name. I love [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] nn [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], too, but it doesn’t seem like either of you are as attached to it. As for other options:
I don’t really think the [name_f]Rose[/name_f] Z thing is an issue, though it does kind of sound like [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
[name_f]Rosa[/name_f] is a very pretty alternative if sound problem is a deal breaker for you. [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Rosella[/name_f], [name_f]Rosetta[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosanna[/name_f] are all pretty alternatives that you could still get the nickname [name_f]Rose[/name_f] out of.
With a Z last name, both endings trip me up a little, however, I do love [name_f]Effy[/name_f] Z____, she feels fresh but also cozy and warm and [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] as a full name gives her (and you) so so so many options, I don’t think you can go wrong with it.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] Z-. I think some people might get a little overly particular with those kinds of things!
There’s actually a (VERY minor) character in [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] named [name_f]Rose[/name_f] Zeller. I think she’s only mentioned once without a description, but as a kid I just thought that was a lovely name! It’s stuck with me ever since.
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] is beautiful! More so than it’s fuller versions in my opinion. There’s something fresh about it being short and simply [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
Saying that, [name_f]Rose[/name_f] starting names are pretty in whatever variation, some of my favorites are:
I’m an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] so I’m biased, but I love this name. So many nicknames to choose from. I get [name_f]Beth[/name_f] and [name_f]Lizzie[/name_f], when I was younger it was [name_f]Betty[/name_f]. I’ve always loved that. In the same way as [name_f]Rose[/name_f] being a favorite in its shortest form, I feel the same about [name_f]Eliza[/name_f].
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] I think are equally wonderful.
I think a last name starting with Z makes both [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] run on or trip on the tongue, so they’d be out for me. I love all the nicknames you like for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], so that would be my fave from your list.
