Thank you! I feel like [name_u]Josie[/name_u] gives a totally different vibe than [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], not sure if that’s just me though. [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] to me is more cottagecore, vintage and [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is more sporty and outgoing. It seems more modern, but it’s not. They’re both from the 1600s.
This is a really interesting one because my usual instinct is to suggest you go with the less popular option so it will feel fresher and more distinctive. That would mean [name_u]Josie[/name_u], although the popularity for these two varies a lot across the pond!
[name_f]Rosie[/name_f] ~ #11 in [name_u]England[/name_u] #461 in the US #301 on Nameberry
[name_u]Josie[/name_u] ~ #294 in [name_u]England[/name_u] #130 in the US #517 on Nameberry
I’d say [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] is sweeter and [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is spunkier
Caveat: I’ve just looked up [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] is far and away the rarest, with [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] in the top 100. So there may be lots more Josies out there who are [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] on paper but not many Rosies who are [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]!
I much prefer [name_u]Josie[/name_u]. [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] has always seemed a bit twee to me, although I do like [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]. And [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is a great name.
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] are both lovely! As far as the name in full, I prefer [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] to [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] but as nicknames I prefer [name_u]Josie[/name_u] to [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] (but both are great!) [name_u]Josie[/name_u] feels a bit cowgirl cool and sparky to me whereas [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] feels very sweet and classic. Both age well so I don’t think you could go wrong either way.
Both pretty but personally I love [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] and prefer josephine as a middle name. [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is great though
I personally prefer [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] but both will age well! [name_u]Josie[/name_u] feels a bit trendier to me (in the US) but I think the main thing is deciding which vibe speaks to you more. And maybe which full name sounds best with your chosen middle and last name?
Both nicknames are lovely! I think they both age well because the full names feel more “formal” and professional" if she outgrows the nicknames.
Have you thought about combining them? For example, [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] would give her the option to go by her first or middle names and nicknames of either one.
Right? [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] does feel a little trendy, even though it’s a very old name. I fell in love with it because I like names that don’t end in the typical a or y sound that many girl names do and because it also has a gender-neutral nickname.
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] is just one of those names I’ve loved since I was a little kid.
When it comes to the actual full name, I love them both. I have no preference, not even between [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], but [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] gives a couple more nicknames.
Between [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] and [name_u]Josie[/name_u] I don’t have a preference either.
However, I prefer [name_u]Jo[/name_u] over [name_f]Ro[/name_f] by a landslide. [name_f]Ro[/name_f] just doesn’t seem right.
That said, I love the nickname [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (and the flower).
Anyway, thank you all very much! I’m going to update this with the final decision hopefully in a few days.
As a standalone I prefer [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] but as a longer name I prefer [name_f]Josephine[/name_f].
Personally I don’t think [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] needs a long form, I know several girls called [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] as a full name and think it’s fabulous. I’m not a fan of [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] it feels very old/outdated to me still, despite being a lover of botanic names. [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] feels overly frilly to me, i prefer [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] in its simplicity.
But I also really like [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and [name_u]Josie[/name_u], I think [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is classic and elegant and pretty, but also sophisticated and smart with so many nickname options - [name_u]Josie[/name_u], [name_u]Jo[/name_u], [name_f]Effie[/name_f], Sephy, [name_f]Fifi[/name_f], [name_u]Finn[/name_u], [name_f]Finja[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosie[/name_f], but I love it with the full name [name_f]Rose[/name_f]! I like [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], but [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] probably won’t age as well, whereas [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is classic and timeless and beautiful.
Oh gosh no wonder your struggling both options are beautiful
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite is definitely [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]! I’m a massive fan of [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and her beautiful variants which includes the ever so chirpy [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]. [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] is sweet, sprightly, youthful and has a happy cheerful sound. Out of the two [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] options my favourite is [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f].
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] is absolutely gorgeous she’s elegant, timeless, very classic and has sweet cottagecore imagery along with connotations to the sea, herb and roses. [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] is beautiful. [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] will definitely age well I would not worry about that she’s such a stable classic.
