Rosie?

I’ve been crushing on [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] recently but I think I would prefer her as a nickname rather than a standalone - my boy has a long form and a short version we alternate with and I’d like the same for #2.

So, thoughts on these and any other suggestions would be appreciated. [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] out for reasons.

[name_f]Rose[/name_f] - I like the classic simplicity, it indirectly honours a late relative who had a flower name BUT does it work with a one-syllable surname and with a brother with a four-syllable full name?

[name_f]Rosa[/name_f] - If [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is too abrupt with the surname this may fit better without being too frilly.

[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosanna[/name_f] - Both of these balance with the surname and son’s name better but are they likely to have issues with spelling or pronunciation? I’d say both with a [name_f]Rose[/name_f] rather than a [name_f]Roz[/name_f] start.

Thanks in advance!

Roshanara? [name_u]Or[/name_u] Rossane or Rossana. Both mean dawn / light in Ancient Persian (last one is Hellenized)

[name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] would be my picks. I think [name_f]Rose[/name_f] could be fine with a short surname and with brothers name. [name_m]Just[/name_m] depends on the flow and style.

I think [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] is a great compromise! A little longer, which goes better with your surname and her brother’s name, but still your style!

That said, [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosanna[/name_f] are both lovely and I don’t see them having pronunciation issues. You may also like [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]!

Gosh such lovely names :rose:

I love [name_f]Rose[/name_f] she’s beautiful, elegant, romantic and I love the simplicity behind just [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. Honestly if I was to ever be blessed with another daughter I would name her [name_f]Rose[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] is lovely unexpected and strong. She feels more impactful in comparison to [name_f]Rose[/name_f] I also love the [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] [name_u]Parks[/name_u] association such a fab namesake!

Looking at [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] + [name_f]Rosanna[/name_f] both are gorgeous and would eliminate your concerns about your son’s longer name in comparison to the shorter options. [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] is very frilly and has a sweet European flair. [name_f]Rosanna[/name_f] appeals to me more she’s just so gorgeous feels unexpected and graceful such a wonderful option. [name_f]Rosanna[/name_f] is just lovely!

Other ideas could be [name_f]Primrose[/name_f], [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalba[/name_f], Roseline, [name_u]Rosamel[/name_u] and [name_u]Penrose[/name_u].

I love [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - but I can see why you have concerns with a one syllable last name and your son’s long name (for me, it’s the last name as I like pairing [name_f]Rose[/name_f] with long boy names - eg [name_f]Rose[/name_f] & Frederick).

I am not as keen on [name_f]Rosa[/name_f]. Though, I can see it’s strong and elegant, I just hear it as incomplete (outside the Euro/Sth American contexts) in comparison to [name_f]Rose[/name_f].

I would go for [name_f]Rosanna[/name_f] for a confident and lovely sounding name, or [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] for a sweeter, shyer choice. [name_u]Or[/name_u] one of the other options but if you choose for eg [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], you will of course get the [name_f]Roz[/name_f] sound - not that this has to stop you, you can still have [name_f]Roz[/name_f] sound for full name and use [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] 90% of the time. [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_m]Pike[/name_m] is a great eg of the one syllable last with this grand name!

I don’t love [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] as much as [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] and I like [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f] but might be tricky bc. If pronunciation issues - but again just small preferences here. [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_f]Rosetta[/name_f], [name_u]Penrose[/name_u], [name_f]Primrose[/name_f], Mary-Rose, Lily-Rose, Anna-Rose or Ella-Rose other choices. Obv smooshed are a risk though - first name may be favoured :(Mary-Rose is by far the least risky). I wouldn’t use [name_f]Roseanne[/name_f] - it’s tied up with [name_f]Roseanne[/name_f] [name_m]Barr[/name_m] for me.

[name_f]Rose[/name_f] is solid and charming. I know a few people with single syllable firsts and surnames, and I think [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is solid, established and strong enough to stand easily alongside a four syllable brother name

[name_f]Rosa[/name_f] - love this - a little extra flair and charm

[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] is elegant, lovely and bright. [name_f]Rosanna[/name_f] is strong and cool. I’d say them both with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] at the start too

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite is [name_f]Rose[/name_f], but for you my favourite is [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]! I would pronounce both [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosanna[/name_f] with a [name_f]Rose[/name_f] start.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and suggestions, a lot I hadn’t considered!

[name_f]Rosaline[/name_f] would work too

I adore [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]! I knew a few growing up and they were always sweet, kind people so I only have positive associations with it  I love [name_f]Rosanna[/name_f]! I think it’s well-known enough that people won’t have too much trouble with it yet uncommon enough that you won’t run into too many with this name. I know a couple people have suggested these also, but I am all for [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] (thinking [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] Pike!) and [name_f]Rosaline[/name_f] is also a beautiful yet less common variant!
