Roxy?

What is everybody’s thoughts on [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] (just [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] not [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f])? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] or [name_f]Roxie[/name_f]?

Thanks for your help?

I’m not crazy about [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] (my preferred spelling). It would make a spunky nickname but I don’t like it as a full name. It has a tough-talking, gum-snapping, sassy-mouthed broad kind-of-image in my mind. It also makes me think of the group, [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] [name_f]Music[/name_f].

I prefer the [name_f]Roxie[/name_f] spelling (less punk and more romantic).
If you don’t like [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f], maybe Roxina, [name_f]Roxine[/name_f] or [name_f]Roxannia[/name_f]?

It’s not my favorite…it conjures up the same image for me that it did @misha. Which is odd because of all the women I know named that, not one of them it like that. I prefer the [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] spelling although it reminds me of the clothing line.

[name_f]Roxy[/name_f]…

[name_f]Roxy[/name_f] is a great spunky nickname but I dislike [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] as a first name in it’s own right. I prefer [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f].

: )

[name_f]Roxy[/name_f] is wonderful! I actually love the fiery, sassy image it has. [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] is a favourite of mine but [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] would work just fine as a full name, especially in the land of nicknames as first names and with sister [name_f]Nettie[/name_f]. In fact, the sweetness of [name_f]Nettie[/name_f] balances the [name_f]Roxy[/name_f]'s harder vibe really nicely. Spelling wise I would go with [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] to avoid a double -ie ending but either is great.

I see in your signature that you have a daughter named [name_f]Nettie[/name_f], so clearly you don’t mind the ‘nickname-sounding’ first name. So that aside, I do think that [name_f]Nettie[/name_f] is much softer and spunkier; [name_f]Roxie[/name_f] comes off as harsher and more sharp. Rough around the edges, I guess. I’d personally go with something that has a little less edge.

I like [name_f]Roxie[/name_f] a lot.

I don’t care for it as a full name, and tbh I don’t care for it all that much as a NN, either, based on the plethora of negative associations (the clothing brand, not necessarily negative but not something I’d want to name a child for, the street drug, the song [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f], literary characters that I honestly can’t remember what book they’re from but they weren’t positive ones). And personally associations, I knew a fairly horrifically memorable (prostitute) with the birth name [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] who went by [name_f]Roxy[/name_f]. My best associations are the large handful of dogs I’ve worked with named [name_f]Roxy[/name_f].

Not everyone will have such strong associations, but the bigger ones that people would have would still put me off using it.

[name_f]Roxy[/name_f] is cute on its own. Most people will probably spell it [name_f]Roxy[/name_f], not [name_f]Roxie[/name_f], so I would go with that. Then she won’t have to correct spelling as much.

[name_f]Roxy[/name_f] could work either as a nickname or full name, especially if her sister is [name_f]Nettie[/name_f]. If you’d like a longer name, for something a little bit different, I know a [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] short for [name_f]Rozanne[/name_f] (which then gives you the whole plethora of [name_f]Rose[/name_f] names to work with).

I dislike [name_f]Roxy[/name_f]. I just cannot see a Dr [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] ____ or President [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] ____.

I can’t get on board with [name_f]Roxy[/name_f]. I grew up on the Aussie coast where we walk around in bathing suits the entire summer and get sun-baked skin. [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] being a brand of women’s clothing just conjures up that for me, which isn’t necessary bad, but it’s a somewhat surf-y, popular brand here. Maybe it’s just me though. It certainly has a cool sound!

To me [name_f]Roxy[/name_f]/[name_f]Roxie[/name_f] sounds either like a dog or a stripper.

I just think of the surf brand and the bratz doll Roxxi (I had her though I corrected the spelling to [name_f]Roxy[/name_f]). I want to like it since I like the similar in style [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] but I think of the brand too much since [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] clothes were huge when I was younger. Also my dad had a dog named [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] which he talks about a lot so I also think of a dog.

Its propably one of the few nicknames, that I dont like them as full names. While I think [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] nicknamed [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] is just stunning, I find just [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] to be incomplete.

I prefer the [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] spelling.

I like [name_f]Roxy[/name_f]. I’ve never been a fan of [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] or [name_f]Roxanna[/name_f] so I’m fine with [name_f]Roxy[/name_f] as a full name. Ending in -y is better than -ie. The -ie ending looks cutesy & nickname-y
