Royal baby name thread: Sussex edition!

I’m kind of hoping that [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] and [name_m]Harry[/name_m] will be a tad more adventurous than [name_m]Will[/name_m] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] have been - but still on the safe side of the spectrum obvs. For girls i was thinking:

[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]

And [name_f]Doria[/name_f] for a middle would be lovely I think. For boys I’m less inspired, but maybe:

[name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]

This sounds most likely to me. I think it’s nice to imagine that they’ll pick something trendsetting and bold that reflects her side, but I think in actuality, she just wants to really be integrated fully into the royal family and is happy to adopt the expectations of the role. At least for the first kid and while they’re so early into their marriage. I could be wrong, but I think we can expect something more traditional, with meaningful middle names.

I’d like to see a more obscure [name_u]Royal[/name_u] name like [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Maud[/name_f], or [name_f]Helena[/name_f] for a girl, and [name_m]Alfred[/name_m], [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], [name_m]Leopold[/name_m], or [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] for a boy.

Guesses…

[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f], or [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] as a middle…although [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] might pop up as a surprise first.
I don’t think they’d use [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] as that’s [name_f]Kate[/name_f]'s sister’s name.
[name_f]Diana[/name_f] or [name_f]Frances[/name_f] would also be potential middles.
I can’t remember for sure, but isn’t [name_f]Meghan[/name_f]'s best friend named [name_f]Jessica[/name_f]? Perhaps a variant of that as a middle…[name_f]Jessamine[/name_f], perhaps?
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] or [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] would be a first-name pick that would honor [name_m]Charles[/name_m], especially as he seemed to be so kind to [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] on the wedding day.
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f] is a Scottish variant of [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], which is a variant of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. That would honor the queen as well as the family’s long-standing connection to [name_f]Scotland[/name_f].

[name_m]Wild[/name_m] guess: [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f]

For boys…

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] would be a way to honor [name_f]Meghan[/name_f]'s mom & it’s a pretty classic name.
[name_m]Philip[/name_m], [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], or [name_m]Charles[/name_m] might be good middle names, as would [name_u]Spencer[/name_u].
Definitely not [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], as that’s [name_f]Meghan[/name_f]'s father’s name. (Thanks to the comment above about him being a toad, I will now think of him as [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] the Toad.) No [name_m]Stephen[/name_m], [name_m]John[/name_m], or [name_m]Richard[/name_m], either.

[name_m]Wild[/name_m] guess: [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Philip[/name_m] [name_u]Spencer[/name_u]

[name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_f]Doria[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] & [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]

This a complete reword of my previous post here, but anyways…

[GIRLS]
When it comes to first name, I think they’ll pick something that’s always been around as a “Sweet spot” name, or something classic that was never really ever “trendy”. Maybe Eliza, Grace, Lilliana, Leah, Sophia, Chloe, Zoe. I asked some friends of mine, one said Harmony and another said Olivia. Note anything with “Kat” is automatically out.

The middle names would be way more traditional. Harry will 110% have a Diana reference, and me and another royal enthusiast were saying Frances would very likely be in there as a middle, as it’s Diana’s middle, and that Frances of Sussex sounds clunky. But not in a good way. If not, Elizabeth, or a variation, as Elizabeth is already Charlotte’s middle. Maybe Eliza again, Elsie, Elspeth, if Meghan and Harry feel brave enough. Or what about Alexandra, aka Elizabeth’s middle name?

There would probably be a nod to Meghan’s mother as well. As she’s Doria Loyce, Meghan could just put Doria in there on its own. Or, she could put Dorothy (Its becoming cool again, but in my opinion, it’s still too tied to Dorothy the Dinosaur.), Dora, Thea. I have no idea how she could put Loyce in there though. Joy? It’s kinda similar.

Or, they could follow the Kate and Will route, and just go with Alice, Victoria, etc.

[BOYS]
In my opinion, there is no way Jack wasn’t considered. I don’t know, I just feel like it was thrown around. I’m more stuck with the boys names, but maybe Alexander, Theodore, Arthur, Arlo, even. A friend suggested Sebastian, Elliott and Oscar.

Middle names would probably be an ode to Philip or Charles, so Charlie, Charles, and Philip are all considered. Or even a middle of theirs, like Arthur. I also think Spencer, aka Diana’s maiden name could get a mention, too, if they want a less traditional route.

To be honest, I’m stuck after that. We’ll just have to wait, then.

[name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Maud[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_f]Augusta[/name_f]
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]

There was a blog post about rare royal names, I remember liking [name_f]Sybilla[/name_f] a lot

I think [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is my top pick at the moment. It covers historical royal names, civil rights & suffragettes so for me it’s a strong contender.

For boys names I have no idea.

I have a feeling it’s a girl as well. I initially was thinking [name_f]Alice[/name_f] or [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] for a boy. I agree they will likely go with something traditional but closer to the trendy/cool side of things.

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Philip[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m]
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m]

I will guess:

[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] and [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] [name_m]David[/name_m] - Not everyone’s guess, so it’s mine.

Really hoping (and thinking) it’s a girl! And I gotta admit, I’m a little more interested (invested, even?) in [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] and [name_m]Harry[/name_m]'s name choice than [name_m]Will[/name_m] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f]'s. Perhaps because they have a tad bit more freedom and this Aussie/NZ/Polynesian Islands tour seems to point to [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] finally having found a nice balance between her new royal position and her [name_u]California[/name_u]/US background (speaking specifically about her fashion/makeup). I’m hoping she finds that balance in naming her child(ren) as well!

I’d love to see them venture outside of the [name_f]Alice[/name_f]/[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]/[name_m]Frederick[/name_m]/[name_m]Phillips[/name_m]'s that were all high bets/potentials for W/K. I could definitely see them going traditional with perhaps a more casual/trendy nickname (similar to [name_m]Harry[/name_m]).

Something like…(I haven’t read previous comments so my apologies for duplicates)

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] - “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]” or “[name_f]Nora[/name_f]”
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f] - “[name_f]Tori[/name_f]”
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f] - “[name_f]Bella[/name_f]” ([name_u]LOVE[/name_u] THIS ONE)
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] - “[name_f]Cora[/name_f]”
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] - “[name_f]Millie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Athena[/name_f] - “[name_f]Thea[/name_f]”
[name_f]Lea[/name_f]

[name_m]Augustus[/name_m] - “[name_u]August[/name_u]” or “[name_u]Gus[/name_u]”
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] - “[name_m]Gabe[/name_m]”
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - “[name_u]Theo[/name_u]”
[name_m]Winston[/name_m] (honestly loving this idea for a boy)
[name_u]Leone[/name_u] - “[name_m]Leo[/name_m]”

[name_f]Arabella[/name_f], [name_f]Athena[/name_f] and [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] are personal faves for a girl. [name_m]Winston[/name_m], [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m] are my personal front runners for boys. Besides [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]'s middle names (which were a shoo-in), I honestly feel like middle names are a crap shoot. Especially when they aren’t high in line for the throne.

Regardless, here’s to hoping for a happy, healthy baby!

[name_u]James[/name_u] or [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] for a boy, [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] or [name_f]Emma[/name_f] for a girl.
