Looks like it’s time to start one of these up again!
Congratulations to [name_m]Harry[/name_m] and [name_f]Meghan[/name_f]
Sooo, who wants to kick off the guesses?

Congratulations to [name_m]Harry[/name_m] and [name_f]Meghan[/name_f]
Sooo, who wants to kick off the guesses?
I’m guessing that, like with the style they chose for their wedding, they will keep it classic and stylish. I doubt they will be as concerned about royal precedent as [name_m]William[/name_m] and [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]. For a girl, perhaps something along the lines of:
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Adela[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
For a boy, it’s harder. I can’t picture them going for anything very old-fashioned or ostentatious; maybe [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] or [name_m]John[/name_m] “[name_m]Jack[/name_m]”?
As for middles, I wonder if we would see any nods to their passions; i.e. something to subtly reference [name_f]Africa[/name_f]?
I like suggestion of [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] in one of previous threads. I can’t see them naming their girl [name_f]Doria[/name_f], mostly because it’s not fashionable, but who knows, right?
I think [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] might like something more unusual, and non-fills, since she choose her middle name [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] to go by it. [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] is more American classic, while [name_f]Megan[/name_f] is old Welsh nickname for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], but also a dated American name. Since she she has hateful family I believe she won’t do honor names.
So I could see her naming her child something like [name_f]Carys[/name_f], but without sugary sweet meaning.
There’s also a possibility of something new like [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] or maybe even [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]/[name_f]Sophie[/name_f], something with nice meaning to it.
I think they may use something like…
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
I could see them still honouring the family around them without being strictly named after relatives. Being a little further down the chain, they should have a little more freedom. I certainly see some kind of relation to [name_f]Doria[/name_f], and whether its a boy or girl, a nod to either [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_m]Philip[/name_m].
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] OR [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_m]Philip[/name_m].
I would guess that [name_u]Baby[/name_u] Sussex is due between [name_f]April[/name_f] 14-25 next year.
Off to do some royal name research!
I have a feeling that Harry and Meghan are going to be a lot harder to nail down than William and Kate, since as a couple and individually they seem to be less conservative in their style. Fashion-wise, Meghan seems to be much more open to trends, and Harry has always been a bit of a rebel, which has me thinking along the lines of:
Edith — frequently used as a royal name pre-Conquest and just cracked the top 100 in England and Wales
Emma — the most famous pre-Conquest English queen, and the only woman to be married to two different English kings, so it has royal cred while not being a super traditional choice
Isabella — Isabella of France was a badass (but controversial) medieval queen consort, which might appeal to Meghan’s feminism, plus the name itself is very on trend
John — the royals have long been superstitious about this name, but Harry seems the kind to buck superstition. Plus, Jack would be a very cute and trendy nickname.
I’m REALLY hoping that they go for something beyond [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_m]Albert[/name_m], or [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]. As others have noted, they should have more flexibility than [name_m]William[/name_m] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. I don’t think that they will go beyond safe (no [name_f]Rainbow[/name_f] or [name_m]Maverick[/name_m]) but some of the other little royals include [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Mia[/name_f], and [name_f]Savannah[/name_f], so I’m hopeful!
I could see something along the lines of
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] (like [name_f]Doria[/name_f])
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_u]Elliott[/name_u]
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]
[name_m]Miles[/name_m]
[name_u]Owen[/name_u]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m]
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_m]Silas[/name_m]
[name_u]Tristan[/name_u]
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m]
I think whatever they choose, it will be stylish but not at all pretentious.
I would love for a girl to be named [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] (after [name_f]Meghan[/name_f]'s mum [name_f]Doria[/name_f]). I think they’ll go for a more modern/spunky play on traditional (eg. [name_f]Veronica[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] etc).
[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Diana[/name_f]
Seeing as how this baby is so far down the line of succession and [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] is an American sorority girl, I’m guessing their going to end up going with something way more trendy and preppy. So for a girl, something more along the lines of [name_f]Ava[/name_f] or [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] and for a boy, maybe [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] since it’s both an honor name and fits in with the surname trend.
I love the name [name_f]Alice[/name_f] also I think for boys they should use [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] or [name_u]Spencer[/name_u]. I don’t think they will use [name_m]John[/name_m] due to the bad luck with that name. But maybe [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] [name_m]John[/name_m] Ooo I like it
I don’t think it will be too out there but like some [name_m]Harry[/name_m]’s family has done the names may have more edge or at least not the usual expected royal names.
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u] could work for a boy or girl as a first name or a middle name. I don’t know if would use as a first name though.
Some ideas off the top of my head
Girls
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f] (Scottish version)
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
[name_f]Michaela[/name_f]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f] as in [name_f]Eve[/name_f] -uh
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_u]Simone[/name_u]
Boys
[name_m]Hamish[/name_m]
[name_m]Milo[/name_m]
[name_m]Martin[/name_m] ( first or middle)
[name_m]Simon[/name_m]
I will probably think of more
Another thought for a girl
[name_f]Daniella[/name_f]
I can see [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] pushing for something with a nod to either [name_f]Africa[/name_f] or the civil right movement maybe?
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosa[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
etc
That’s what made me think about [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] although it would be also for [name_m]Harry[/name_m] . Actually [name_f]Alice[/name_f] for [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_u]Walker[/name_u] would check off a few boxes.
I’m hoping for a real surprise!
But I would guess they’ll choose a sophisticated but fairly mainstream modern classic in the UK, but perhaps one that’s a little less well-used in the US. Something like…
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f]
[name_f]Philippa[/name_f]
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Rupert[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m]
[name_m]Alistair[/name_m]
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m]
[name_m]Maximilian[/name_m]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m]
I could see a little girl named [name_f]Theodora[/name_f], nn [name_f]Thea[/name_f] or [name_f]Doria[/name_f].
I actually wonder if she wouldn’t lean more toward meaningful royal names to show her allegiance and that she’s fully invested. I could totally see a [name_m]Charles[/name_m] ([name_u]Charlie[/name_u] for sure) or a [name_f]Diana[/name_f]. ([name_f]Diana[/name_f] is kind of a feminist icon too, hello? Wonder Woman!) I also wouldn’t rule out [name_m]Phillip[/name_m], especially as he is reportedly in poor health and maybe they’ll want to honor him while he’s still around to see it?
[name_u]Love[/name_u] the idea of [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] but I don’t get the impression that the last names as first names trend is as rampant in the UK as US.
I think we can be pretty sure she won’t be honoring her terrible toad of a father.
Anyone else just hoping they don’t choose the name of one of your kids? Regardless, the name they pick will skyrocket in popularity, right?
It’s hard to say, as so much depends on which title the baby will have and which surname the parents choose to use.
For example, [name_f]Frances[/name_f] might be a likely choice ([name_f]Diana[/name_f]’s middle name)… would it be…
[name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] (too much ss?)
The Lady [name_f]Frances[/name_f] Mountbatten [name_u]Windsor[/name_u]
Or
[name_f]Frances[/name_f] Sussex (too much ss?)
The first name will definitely be traditional. Not only does that fit in with the royal style, but it fits the ‘old lady’ style that is popular on both sides of the Atlantic.
I’d predict [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] will be one of the middle names, and the other would be to honour [name_f]Doria[/name_f], or another ancestor on [name_f]Doria[/name_f]’s side.
First name will be something like…
[name_f]Frances[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
My guess is on [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] or [name_f]Alice[/name_f] for a girl, with [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] as a middle name thrown in there somewhere. I find their baby’s name so much harder to guess.
[name_u]Truly[/name_u] stumped for boy names, nothing has come to mind. Looking through this thread, [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is one that stuck out most. Possibly [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] for a girl?
