What do you think of the name Ruarc? Would you pronounce it more like RORK (to rhyme with fork) or ROO-ark? The RORK pronunciation seems most intuitive to me, but I’m unsure what others might think of it. What middle name(s) would you suggest?
If you strongly dislike the name, what would you suggest as an alternative?
If you’re going for the “rork” pronunciation, then I would suggest spelling it [name_m]Roark[/name_m]/[name_m]Roarke[/name_m] as Ruarc would probably get misspelled/mispronounced a lot. While [name_m]Roark[/name_m] isn’t common, it’s a known enough surname that people would probably know how to say it.
I considered asking if [name_m]Roark[/name_m]/[name_m]Roarke[/name_m] would be a more intuitive spelling for the pronunciation I have in mind. I’m glad you mentioned it!
Agreed with [name_m]Roark[/name_m]/[name_m]Roarke[/name_m] — I instantly see those as “rork,” whereas Ruarc made me pause (I’ve never seen it before) and then settle on a sort of slurred “roo-ark.”
I agree with others. I sort of slurred out a Roo-arc sound. [name_m]Roark[/name_m] or [name_m]Roarke[/name_m] would be better, but the name itself can lend to some pronunciation issues that really don’t sound too great.
