Rue/Roux

[name]Do[/name] you like the sound of this name? Which spelling would you use? [name]How[/name] would you classify it?

Well, ‘roux’ is the word for the base in gumbo and other Cajun sauces, basically made from lard…so, no, I wouldn’t go with this spelling.
‘[name]Rue[/name]’ is more commonly used as a girls’ name a la [name]Rue[/name] McLanahan and the character in The Hunger Games. It conjures up French streets and regret, as in, ‘you’ll rue the day.’
It is a rather different and mysterious name and I have actually known 2 people with it ([name]Rue[/name], not [name]Roux[/name]), but my main issue is that it sounds like ‘Roo’ to the casual ear, which isn’t nearly as pretty.

i think rue is pretty, but it does sound like roo to the untrained ear, also the character is beautiful and young but gets killed brutally and cruelly

Thanks for your input, I also have an issue with the spelling [name]Roux[/name], given that it is a thickener used for many foods. I can’t get past that, but I was very surprised when I searched the name and that spelling showed as a possibility! Also [name]Roux[/name] as a boys name… I dunno… sounds pretty bad to me.

I really like [name]Rue[/name], but the association with the “rue the day” meaning is pretty significant.

sigh Too bad.
